Daddy, what does KZ stand for? was created by Mellvis
This is the question that my 6 year old son just asked me. He was reading over my shoulder and asked what a KZ was. I told him that his mommy's and my bikes are KZs. Well his curiousity was not satisfied, so he asked me what KZ stands for. I told him that I didn't know. In his 6 year old innocent way he said "how can you be a member if you don't know?" WELL.....I guess that is like supporting a politician and not even knowing thier name. Can anyone help me out here?

I read somewhere (probably here) that in 1976, Kaw changed all of the models to K-something. KE was for Enduro, KT was for Trails, etc.
But the Z1 was popular, so Kaw wanted to keep the Z in the new name. Hence, KZ.
Anyway, that's what I've heard.

Sure I can help. Point over in the corner. Yell "OH MY GOD A ROBOT!". When he looks...run the other way. By the time he finds you he will have forgotten all about the question. It would be a good thing if you got candy just in case he remembers the question!;)

KZ stands for the most handsome, performance oriented bikes of the late '70s/early '80s.

Z means performance and a KZ is the Kawasaki Z bike--performance bike.

The Z still has the same meaning of performance motorcycle as the latest models are the ZX6, ZX10, and ZX14 and are at top of their respective classes.

Okay, so that was six-year old overload. KZ is Japanese for Cool. How's that?

Nate

Nates vintage bike axiom: Riding is the reward for time spent wrenching.
Murphys corollary: Wrenching is the result of time spent riding.
