Ebay trickery? was created by Bluemeanie
Remember the thread last week about the stacks attached to 29mm smoothbores? Stacks for sale but NOT carbs? Came across this, this guy looks like he is purposelly trying to mislead. What do you think?

Suppose I ought to ask him what the condition of the bulb is and ask him to post a picture?

I think the trickery is aimed at ebay. This guy is trying to sell his bike but only wants to pay ebay for the cost of selling a taillight bulb. Last I checked you don't need paperwork to sell a taillight bulb and the mileage and the Kerker header are not factors either.;) Pretty slick on his part.

Interesting Gringo, never thought about it that way. I've never sold on ebay so don't know about rules, fee's, etc. Will be interesting to see how much that "light" goes for! :woohoo:

I've never sold anything on ebay either but as I understand it, the fees to sell a bike are in the neighborhood of $60.00 or so. I'm sure someone here can clarify that but in any case this guy gets a pic of his bike on ebay, provides some details and gives out his phone number for what I'm sure is a cost that is next to nothing. Pretty slick way to beat the system if it works for him.

I've seen quite a few people sell there bikes with out paying the BIG listing fees by not using the T word in their description and saying "Bike has a clear 'youknowhat', please call me.

I don't think ebay has caught on to that yet.

Hmmmm.

Interesting speculation on what the guy is up to. One of those "wink and a nod" things perhaps? I dunno.

Giving his phone number and inviting contact makes me think that he's trying to use the exposure of eBay to get the result of Craigslist, i.e. get a lot of views for a free of cost sale.

I think it would be quicker to run out to Walmart to get a taillight bulb, though.

So this is about the dumbest e-bay listing I have seen...so if you bid on the auction and win at 99 cents then he is going to make you drive to his location to pick up the bulb? What if you call him and he says that it IS for the bike, you bid and it isn't what he is hoping to get for it...then what? He will sell you the bulb for $350.00 Or does he tell you the secret reserve price up front.
Come on.. I have sold and bought many items on e-bay. Things I couldn't have found for my old bikes anywhere else and at reasonable prices. Like the post above stated, listing fees for a bike are like $60. Where else can you get this kind of advertisement and wide distribution for that price. This listing just proves to what extent people will go to game the system. What a Cheap A$$.

I see this sale ended early. Must have found a private buyer for the bulb.;)

I just yesterday received a 1985 GPZ900 middle fairing from this Ebay seller. It's in great shape just as described. I looked at a lot of his other parts for sale but didn't see anything like the light bulb! He has 921 feedbacks with a 99.8% positive feedback, so I don't think he has tried to trick many people. Definitely a strange ad...

The 1977 A1 i bought off ebay was listed under "parts bike".The decription said,"I have all the paper work".
The owner only had to pay a few dollars total to list and sell the bike.
Maybe a protest against eBays new policies.:woohoo:
