helmet? was created by genesis
I went to the CycleWorld Bike show last Sunday, and started messing around with the $500+ helmets to see what the difference was from my current lid. I got measured for both an Arai and Shoei, but neither fit right. However, I do realize I need a different helmet because apparently I'm supposed to be wearing a large instead of an XL. After looking around this week I think I have it narrowed down to an AGV V-flyer, which will run me $100
AGV V-Flyer

or the Scorpion exo-400, whch will run me about $90
Scorpian Exo-400
I need some help knowing if anybody has worn either of these on their KZ and how they performed
Thanks ahead of time

I wear a Shoei RF1000 myself, it has different thickness cheek pads you can purchase for a custom fit. The most important thing is the ratings that a helmet must pass.
Don't let price be a factor, this is one area not to skimp on. A Snell rating is the only way to go as D.O.T helmets pass a minimum safety requirement and are generally for novelty use only. There are a number of manufactures offering snell approved helmets for a reasonable price. A Bell helmet saved my life in the early 80's so I am a true believer in helmet quality. I would not buy a bell helmet today because diversified years ago and the quality went out the window in my opinion. Check out this snell vs dot article.

I have an Icon Alliance I got from Dennis Kirk's clearance section on their website. Best fitting helmet I've worn so far. It's both Snell and DOT rated.

Both of these helmets are DOT and SNELL rated. I have been sold on my helmet having multiple ratings for years now. The reason I've chosen these two is they both fit my weird shaped head snugly without pain. And the price came about after finding the lids I liked, and then looking for the best price. The AGV is usually $340 and the Scorpion is usually $190. So they're both a good price on a good helmet. All the reviews I have read are from guys riding Sportbikes though, so I thought they might feel a little different on a naked bike like my KZ's. The problem I'm having is they both feel really good on, but I only need 1.
So far I've tried Shoei, Arai, Icon, KBC, some new brand called Spark and even Fulmer. I have an HJC but it doesn't feel as nice as the AGV and Scorpion, and it's driving me a little crazy now that I found two helmets I really like in my price range.:S

I'm in the market for a new lid as well. I was out looking on New Years Eve and tried on the Scorpion EXO-400 and it felt great. It really fit my head perfectly and wasn't too heavy. From the reviews I've been reading online they are pretty good helmets, especially for the price. The place I was looking at them never had the colour I wanted so I need to wait until it comes in, but I will be getting the EXO-400.

Have you considered an HJC CL-15 ?? Removable liner, you can mix and match the cheek pads and liner to make a perfect fit. Plus the liners are like $12.00, so you can replace them and keep the shell, all for just over a hundred dollars. I like mine, bought it worn once for $60 off ebay.

I was thinking about the HLC Sky-Max solid. Has the Jaw section that flips up. About $180.00 at my local dealer...

I had a Scorpion EXO-400. It isn't the lightest helmet, ventilation isn't as awesome as they say it is, but it is a comfortable helmet. It is also a fairly large framed helmet, I didn't like that.

so after a few weeks of looking i finally found a helmet i like in my price range.
i ended up getting the HJC CL-SP to replace my CL-15. my 15 is a really good, comfy helmet, just a little too big. I got the SP for $82 shipped, here's the link to newenough
newenough.com/closeouts/helmets/hjc/cl_s...torcycle_helmet.html

the other helmets I was considering also have a great deal going
Scorpion exo-400 for $90 shipped, put SBN in the promo code box at checkout)
stores.sportbiketrackgear.com/Detail.bok?no=1971
they have other models for a little bit more

and finally, AGV V-flyer. $100 shipped to the lower 48
stores.sportbiketrackgear.com/Detail.bok?no=2993

they have a graphic model for $110 shipped also, looks pretty decent in person.

hope somebody is looking for a new helmet at a good price

I was going to suggest checking used helmets: there is nothing that loses value more than a once-worn helmet. maybe it's the fear of head lice, but it's amazing how worthless used helmets are when you try to sell them. Every bike shop with a bulletin board will have a bunch for sale.
