What model yr (if any) would be best and what do I look out for?
I've been reading Ads for 2005->1995. BMW s and KZ 1K-P

I'm doing Escort work on my Vulcan(not setup for it) and need
to get a used police bike.

I've been reading about both Mfger's bikes.
The later model BMW's are double digit $$$.

Is this expensive for '05 KZ 1K-P bike ?
"...Price - $8,500.00

The KZ1000P is essentially the same bike from 1982 till 2005. Prices will depend on the model year, of course, and condition. Most of these bikes have been put out to pasture when they become uneconomical to keep in service by a police force and many have been treated roughly. It is likely that you can find the best deals on a cop bike in a location where there were lots of them in service. A place out in Canoga Park CA specializes in cop bikes and you can likely find a late model version in decent shape out there. The one in TX sounds on the high side but of course, that depends on the mileage and condition. You can always save some money by picking up a used bike with more miles and age and putting it into shape but unless you are experienced at this type work, you will likely spend more time and money than if you buy one in better condition to begin with.

They sell alot of used cop bikes here in the LA area. There's a phone number, you can check out some prices. You could fly out, and ride one home. Not sure about the prices, but at least one member on this board has bought a bike from them.

I bought my '99 1000p from Hollywood motor sports, rode it home, but I had to clean out the tank and carbs before I could ride it very far. They don't keep much gas in them, seems it is against the CA enviro laws or something.

They have several KZ1K-p, do not list Prices nor mileage.

" BMW 1100 and 1150RT-P; show mileage but not list the Prices

Are these bikes in good Repair/maintenance?

Have Police bike purchasers by any KZRiders end up with any problems?
