Re: 12 o'clock bars

Well, I guess I'm one of the few who knew exactly what a 12 O'clock bar was....
I don't agree with the stunting on the street, but it is a very entertaining part of motorcycling. I have seen performances at race tracks and a lot on T.V., but have never tried it myself (other than the occasional wheelie and burn out). I agree that a newer style bike is probably better suited for stunting. Many have the plastic taken off and all kinds of "cages" made to prevent damage when they tip over. I'm not sure an old KZ could take the pounding and I'd hate to see one get beat up.
Like I said, I don't agree with it on the street, but give the culture a chance. It takes some serious talent to ride like that. When it's done safely and legally, I say go for it! Like it or not, it has become a big part of motorcycling and won't be going away anytime soon.
Check out Jason Britton on the speed channel sometime. He has a show called "superbikes" and it is addicting. Nothing I'll be doing anytime soon, but really cool to watch.
There should be a post on here somewhere about a European guy who stunted KZ's back when they were new. KZ1300's, I think. Jeff from Z1 would know who I'm talking about. Then you had Doug Domokos who used to break the tail lights off of KZ1300's riding wheelies. I guess it has been done now that I'm thinking about it.

Wow, I just did some internet searching on Doug Domokos and didn't realize he died in 2000. What a bummer. He was amazing. Anyway, back to stunting on a KZ - here is one picture I was able to find...

the engine is too wide to stunt a kz in my opinion.
last of the kz 1000's, it'd be a shame to blow it up.

I agree with 79MKII, I watch some of these idiots on Youtube dumping and crashing their $8000-$9000 bikes and just laughing it off! Bunch of inexperianced wannabes. But I have to to admit when you watch a skilled rider perform these stunts it is addicting. It does take an amazing amount of skill and balance (not to mention big balls) to pull off these stunts. I admire a person who has that talant! Checked out some pics of these machines and noticed that they run a "huge" rear sprocket!

Wow...I didn't know that Doug Domokos had died...he wasn't that old! He would be a favorite intermission perfomer at the speedway races I would attend in the late '70s early '80s. He was rather talented.

I have built a couple sets of them to date- mostly for Gixxers and F4i-
ANY bike can be stunted, pretty much- I have seen in stunt wars that dude stuntin a Triumph Rocket!
In no way is the Z1 too wide to stunt- not even close. Not even an issue really. You do a "clutch up" on a gold wing and do tight Os if you gots the talent.
I can't tell if the link will work on my work 'puter-
but if it does- check this out- these are a bunch of my friends, a pro-stunt team, used to be "Arctic Attack"- now it is the "AK Freestyle syndicate" in these vids, mostly. The Gixxer is in my shop right now.
BTW- tell me that the snowmachine stunt at the begining isn't the best stunt eva- and the best save eva comes in at the end- check it out!

If your going to do this "stunting" thing and think your a good enough rider to waste your time doing this. Why don't you sell the streetbike and put the money down on a decent MX bike? I have a lot more respect for riders who show off their skills by spanking someones butt on a track putting those mad skills to use rather than wheelying around a parking lot.
Stunting is like being the All-Harley drag racing champion. So what or Who cares, take your pick. If you have the skills then put them on display... in a legit arena.

Yea Doug died where I live. I believe it was a ultra light crash. I think he lived here also. Found this...
"Domokos tragically died on November 26, 2000, in an ultralight aircraft accident in Murrieta, California. Domokos' flight instructor was also killed in the crash. His fiancée, Michelle Kennington, and Doug had a son, Nikolas."

For the most part- stunting is done on street bikes. F4i is the most common, and considered the best, for stuntin'.
Stuntin also translates well into racing- our #1 plate holder up here is also the #1 stunta, and will be at stunt wars this year as well, as part of the freestyle syndicate.
It is also not exclusively for the young either- same dude is 38, and I am 42. Most on our team are over 30.
