I dont watch much tv but last night happended to see an episode of a series called "House". The main character House is a quirky doctor with a bad leg who walks with a cane. Anyway, what caught my attention and the reason for the post is that he had some kind of a Honda sports bike with a holder for the cane and he parked it in a handicap parking spot. Got me wondering if it was possible to get a handicap plate or sticker for a motorcycle or if the very definition of motorcyclist precludes the need to park in a handicap zone ?

Thinking a head to one day when I'm older and more of the body bits fail and heck why not park closer to the door if I can

A long time ago in a far away place I met crazy woman who rode a 250 with her right leg in a plaster cast and she had rigged a kind of highway bar to prop the leg. Her biggest problem was getting on and off the bike. Back then I dont think they had handicap parking zones or stickers

I do believe it's possible to obtain a handicapped license plate for a bike. In fact about 2 years ago I saw one on a Harley. It also had a spot for securing a cane.

I was there too as I used to see a fellow confined to a wheelchair who had rigged a CB450 with a flatbed sidecar, He used to roll himself onto the sidecar, somehow attach himself to it and away he went. He also had fabricated hand controls and a bizarre set of handlebars that operated the bike from the sidecar side. :)

In 1967, while I was in the army, I had surgery on my left arm. The day I got out of the hospital, I went to town and bought a new Honda CB450 for $900. I couldn't operate the clutch due to my cast on my left arm so I switched the clutch and brake cables. It was a trick to learn to roll the throttle with your palm while you used you fingers to work the clutch.

I was flipping through the TV channels the other day, and I saw a program showing a custom motorcycle shop that was making a special bike for a double-leg amputee. All the controls were at the handles.

The man had prosthetic legs, but I guess they aren't articulate enough to work the shifter and rear brake.

It was very cool.

A local guy here in Kansas had a gixxer 750 (hey, who didn't...) and got T-boned at an intersection by the notorious blu-haired old lady in a Plymouth Fury III at an intersection. After it's all said and done he gets a settlement and pockets the huge cash instead of having corrective surgery done to his leg (since, as he said, "it works, just looks bad")...leg looks like a 3-D road map...gross, no kidding.
Anyway, this dork is pretty screwed-up and gets a Handy-cap tag for his new bike (YZF1000R) and has had one every since, his slammed-raked turbo-gixxer, then his turbo-'Busa (who doesn't have one of those, either:lol: )...that tag looked pretty comical on those turbo bikes...and on his NX250. Can you tell the guy went thru bikes. He's outta bikes now and into cages...he fits there best. ;)
