Ever notice the numbers in the gallery? 1000's and 650's seem to be the most popular.

Well, John, as you know yourself, the 650 is a heckuva bike and we 650 owners are not shy about telling the world what a great bike it really is.
I don't know what's with the 1000 owners' pics, though...
:P
Just kidding, you 1000 guys. The big-block bike is great and a good friend of mine has a KZ900.....
but I'm happy with my 650.
If I feel a need for big-block thrills, I hop on my Bandit.....although, having said that, I sure wouldn't pass up a big-block KZ if one drifted into my driveway.
I'm STILL thinking about that low mileage '82 J model at work.....

KZ650C2 Stock/mint. Goes by "Ace".
H2A Built from a genuine basket case. Yes,it's a hot rod.
GT550A Stock/mint. Pleasant stroker.
2006 Bandit 1200S for easy LD rapid transit
Various H2 projects in the wings.

I have them both, dont have any pics of the 1000 yet, I like the ride of the 650 better than the 1000, but the 1000 will get you there quicker;)

Same here and I agree 100%. The more I mess around with the middleweight bikes the more I like them.

I've never owned a KZ1000. Had a few 650s, and loved 'em. Both the KZ1000 and KZ650 are on my "buy" list, but I'm holding out for a '77 model.

You can have one of my 1977 KZ1000A's (just kidding)...I find them to be the absolute worst bike ever produced by Kawasaki (and I'm not kidding)...

What's wrong with them?

Maybe a post can be started about some of the KZ's good and bad points, set up per model?

My 650 B2 seat is washboard thin and only good for a couple hours unless you supplement it.

I agree OKC, seat really bad after couple hours straight, but keep it as I really want the stock look. Overall I love the bike, although stopping and seeing myself in a store window reflection makes me look way too big on bike! I find it very comfortable as far as pegs, handlebars go. Everything else about the bike I love, I don't need more power. My bike pulls real hard thru all gears to 10K. In 27 years, bike has NEVER let me down. Have never done a compression check, valves have not been adjusted in last 43,000 mi (yea, I know, I know). It starts perfect, idles smooth, gets 40+ mpg, and runs way too good for lack of above maintenance. I don't beat on it, change oil every 1,000 mi. Still using original clutch, throttle cables, 2nd set of brakes. Heck, still using original headlight! Have recently added Dyna S, coil mod, andrews coils, accel wires. It's amazing how well these old bikes hold up (all KZ models, 200-1100) I don't know how well other brands do but am totally sold on Kawasaki's. ;)

The 76 KZ900 and 77/78 KZ1000 seem to ride and behave about the same as near as I can tell... these bikes are kind of on the smallish side compared with the 79/80 MK II and ST. My shafty is a far larger and more substantial bike than either of my 900s. The 900s are likely a bit quicker but that may be from having less weight. I far prefer the larger ST as it is more suitable for a full-grown man (if you catch my meaning). The mid-weight bikes are just too small/dainty for my liking. When I used to be not quite so full-grown, I had middle weights... I think the GPz550 was the best of the lot... I would squish one now.
