Yes the carbs are nice but unless it had either some motor or exhaust work done then they will not make much of a difference. As is and being winter I would said it is worth around $900-1100. Tell him to keep the carbs and offer him $450. You can get a set of carbs for around $100 all day long. With those carbs, running and in the Spring it would be worth around $1500-1700

Well, riding season is pretty much over. So, that means it should be a buyers market. The bike looks way too small to be safe in my area (DC).

My bid would be between $500 and $1,000, this time of year, but if the seller really thinks he has a gem then he's obviously not going to budge.

If it had a nice stock seat AND wasn't a smoker/rattler it'd definitely be worth $1500 come spring. Right now...
$800 - $1000 assuming no smoke/rattles.....but that seat is seriously ugly, IMO. Of course, it IS only vinyl and can be tarted up cheaply enough.

The carbs are only worth $500 if you can get that for them...more likely around $300...properly jetted BS34's (what originally came on the bike) can be had fairly reasonably. The KZ750R1 is really difficult to value...I have seen cherry low-mile examples go for between US$3000 and US$4000 and I've seen what I considered the finest example R1 get no bids on eBay (with no reserve). Average price seems to be between US$1000 and US$1500 but running examples can be less than US$1000...for example I paid US$650 for mine and rode it home (and I probably overpaid  ) Seats regularly pop-up on eBay and the recovers are also still available.

I would make an offer somewhere in the $700-1000 range....if it starts right up with no issues. Cosmetics are easy to fix. It all depends on how much you are willing to spend, if its a bike you have always wanted then you might spend more, if its a bike you would like to have if the price was right then offer low.
For me I have always wanted a Z1R, ever since I was blown away by one in 1981 while I was riding my brand new CB900F. So when I found one that was less then $2000 I could not resist.....

That early GPz750 is one of the best looking. Sell the carburetors (waste on that bike) and get the seat recovered in black and toss those hideous mirrors and you will have a nice looking and desireable bike after some clean-up! If the bike runs decently, $1000 seems about right... we start quibbling over a couple hundred bucks one way or the other and loose sight of the fact that most older bikes of this sort will require about the same amount ($1000) to bring back into 1st rate condition. Nothing like a FIRECRACKER RED GPz!
