Its not a KZ, but it goes.. Kind of.

Helping a friend work on his 1983 GR 650 X, its a inline twin, in pretty good condition.. It had been backfiring alot and would start to want to die in the higher RPMs. We took the carbs off and cleaned them pretty good, and still have the same problem. Any idea? Thanks,

Have you checked the base timing and the advancer for operation?

Base timing...? Advancers?? I'll have to look over the manual. I got it on CD and its a pain in the ass to read with adobe acrobat.. Would this be an electronic ignition....?

I don't know what it has, but you can find out easily enough... just look around the engine covers till you find one that has wires coming out and going to the coils... open her up, and see if it has a set of points or a little black magic box looking doohicky. you can basically go from there...

No points, guess I'll start reading up on it heh. For carb cleanin on this bike, do I need to take the entire carb apart or just the bowl and the couple jets in it?
