Is it just me..or

Is it just me, or is this KZ stuff addicting?:S
I am putting the finishing touches (paint and polishing aluminum) on the 650. I still have the 79 1000 to do, and I am already looking for another project.:pinch:

Well, rgdrnr, I've been a Suzuki nut for many years but since I got my H2 on the road 5 or 6 years ago, and then bought my KZ650 this spring, I find myself looking for more and more Kwakker stuff. A poor dismantled (but pretty complete) KZ750E1 came into the salvage yard where I work about 2 weeks ago. I keep looking at it figuring "How hard COULD it be to reassemble the engine after sorting out the valve issues and then making a runner out of it ??"....
but then I give my head a shake.
We also have a very nice running KZ1000J2 which needs the carbs cleaned and the petcock sorted out/overhauled and a general tidying up....and this one ALSO seems to be calling to me, as well.
And then there's that early KZ650 engine that's going in the scrap bin at work that I'm thinking of hauling home to dismantle and learn more about, especially good to practice setting valve clearances with.....and trying to learn OnkelB's procedure for fixing the starter clutch without splitting the cases.
And then there's those 3 or 4 H2 basket cases scattered around that need looking into......
Apparently there's no hope for K(awasaki)MBD.....

I've been hooked since I got here after buying my 750E2. Can't stay away! To me it's worse than an addiction. I think I've also developed bikechondria. Keep thinking all the problems I read about here are going to be found when I get the funds and time together in the same place to get seriously on with my project.

I'm really glad I found KZr because I didn't even imagine how much I didn't know about what I was getting into. This site is a great education!!!

9 bikes currently (down from 14 at the start of summer :blink: )...the cool ones are all in project status...no, it never ends.:blush:

I was addicted when I got my first KZ650 back in 1978, then the H2 in 1979. Back in the mid to late 80s I started buying all the close to mint originals I could find. I found a few, but even by then, most were too messed up for me. At least I'm glad I bought all mine when I did because today I wouldn't spend the money these bikes go for. I bought the H2 for $1000, KZ1000MKII with 500 miles on it, a brand new bike for $2000. Not today.

I had a Z-1 that I totally drag-raced-out (to the point of no return) and sold it when I got an offer that was appealing. I picked up my Z1R and tricked it out with yellow paint, 29s, pods, Yosh system, Corbin-clone. Years later I had picked up another Z1R and thru swapping/selling I put the original back to bone stock.

No offense against my stocker...but I gotta do some bad things to it...there is a 1260 motor going in and FZR1000 suspension going on. I love the Z1R, but it's needs to be mine again.

And I think there-in lies the 'Burger King' appeal of motorcycling for all: you can have it your way.

There shouldn't be any need to split the cases for the starter clutch. I did one this spring with the engine in the bike. Piece of cake. Once the clutch basket is out of the way, it slides out to the right side of the engine (a wooden dowl works nicely).

To reinstall it, the manual says to remove the clutch drive gear before inserting the shaft. I left it on, but needed to carefully use a punch to tap the bearing into place. If you've worked on stuff, it's not a terribly difficult procedure. As usual there are details to concern oneself with any time engine work is undertaken.

I havent really gotten many bikes yet(key word there is yet), but the amount i have spent on the ones i have is crazy(and i do all the work myself!).... Im allways buying parts, or theres something im saving for....right now i need billet gears for the 12 [broke 2nd, and its reccomended that i get at least the first 3 done running like i am(looking for 9.0_s on a stock motor)], i want to get an MTC lock up cluth for it too to drop my 60' times, air shifter, and im slowly putting efi stuff together for my 810cc kz650. need a fuel pump, ms1, temp sensors....no it never ends:woohoo:
