Hey all,

So, if you've read this you know most of my starter assembly got mangled.

Kawasaki has discontinued the rotor and clutch. I've checked my local junk-yards and none of them have a 1976 KZ750 (the parts are particular to that year).

Anyone have a 1976 KZ750 lying around that these parts can be harvested from?

Thanks!

I may still have a rotor laying around, don't remember if it was any good though.

The starter clutch will interchange, I used the one off the 76 rotor on a 79.

Not hard to convert the 76-77 model charging system to the 78-80 style.

Hey Steell, let me know. I might be able to get away with the clutch. As you can see from the pictures here , mine has swiveled. I feel like I can either swivel it back somehow or just work the bolts in there and use it again.

That thin cover is just a tight fit on the clutch, every one I have taken apart has moved somewhat, many worse than yours.
Just straighten out the edges of the cover, and either move it around till it lines up, or trim it with a Dremel so you can get the screws back in.

Use the toughest screws you can find, something more than 10.8

I have seen several clutches with sheared screws.

I ordered the exact screws from Kawasaki (via Z1) to make sure I had the right thread, etc. (my thread was completely wiped out).

But with the history of these bolts on this bike, I don't know how much I trust them now.
