whats a 76 z900 worth was created by GregZ
Hi Guys. I was at the gas station today with my 75 z900. A guy asked if I wanted to buy his 76 z900. He owned it since 79 and it is green and all original. It's mint. $1500 bucks. Good deal or what
thanks greg

I can't believe anyone would sell their bike for that little if it's really all original (pipes, etc.) and mint, but if it is - Jump on it!

Well, if all the paperwork is in order, and it appears to be 'mint', jump on it...at US$1500, it is undervalued by atleast $1000 (or much more, depending on condition)..if it has original pipes (and they are in mint condition) they alone are worth a grand:)

A mint 76 with original paint and pipes will sell for $4500 to $5000 at a show like Mid-Ohio where there are overseas buyers in attendance. Perhaps more... that was as of two years ago and prices tend to keep going up.

with my 75 z900

I'm curious here....what is it ?? A Z1B or a KZ900 ??
From what I know of the 900's there was only one year of the KZ900 which was the '76.

Funny how complicated Big K made the 900 designations.
In 1973, they introuduced the Z1
In 1974, the Z1A
In 1975, the Z1B
In 1976, the KZ900
But some KZ900s spilled into 1977.
That's in the USA (and Canada, I think).
In Europe, and I-don't-know-where-else, the '76 model was a Z900. Don't know why KZ wasn't used overseas.

No, that doesn't quite show the complication...
73=Z1, 74=Z1A, 75=Z1B 76=KZ900A4 and KZ900B1 (LTD) and 77=KZ900A5 and KZ900B2

The A4 thing was put in there to keep you guessing I guess since the previous year the Z1 model was a "B" and they used the "B" designator on the LTD the next year. Maybe they planned on selling "Kawasaki Trivial Pursuit" and was planning to make it a tough game? hehe

Well, George, according to an article I read in Classic Motorcycle Mechanics awhile ago, the "A4" in the KZ900 designation for 1976 was to let everyone know that this was the 4th model year in that series and that it was a "standard" bike, as opposed to the LTD or "B" model. They probably changed from Z1 to KZ900 because they knew the KZ1000 was coming and wanted everyone to be prepared.

Maybe they planned on selling "Kawasaki Trivial Pursuit" and was planning to make it a tough game?

I've been doing a little research on this whole designation thing and from what I've read it seems that not even the "experts" have all the designations nailed down.....even 30+ years later. Maybe, just maybe, Kawasaki has a master list squirelled away in a vault somewhere in Japan....but I wouldn't bet on it. The whole thing gives me a headache just thinking about it. Maybe this winter I'll have a go at collating all the different info I have and see if I can make some sense out of it....but probably won't be able to.
