Also make sure to check INSIDE the nozzle (don't squeeze the trigger while doing this :pinch:) to see if there's anything in there that shouldn't be - on the way back from the Vegas BikeFest two years ago I stopped for fuel near Baker. About 2 miles down the road my bike started sputtering and eventually died.
It started back up after a sitting a few minutes, but died again in less than a mile. It turns out that some asshat stuffed a huge wad of cotton into the fuel nozzle, which ended up in my tank and eventually wrapped itself around the filter inside the tank for the petcock.
I was able to fish enough of it out with a curved twig I found on the side of the road to make it the 100+ miles home where I could remove the rest of it properly, but I reaked like gas for that entire ride. :S
I always carry a shop rag under the seat to help pull the rubber boot around the nozzle back, that way I prevent my hands/gloves from stinkin' like fuel.
Always make sure you point it towards the ground and shake it first, have had gas come out from someone who overflowed tank then hung it up!
