Nothing like the name of a town to get ya stoked, huh?

I have a company truck and a 30 second commute. When they build the new depot it'll be half as far away, unless I move out of town first.

I have about 13 miles out to the farm one way.

I've probably got the most long enduring commute, 3.3 miles each way for coming up on 29 straight years now. Yes, I've moved zero times and changed jobs zero times in 29 years. I guess not all bad. The longest motorcycle commuter I ever knew on a KZ was a friend of mine who rode from Frisco, CO into Aurora every day which was close to 80 miles each way. Of course not every day, but weather permitting, and if you know Frisco, you go through 10,000 ft+ elevations on the way to Denver, Weather permitting can be artic most of the time even in the Summer months.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

PLUMMEN,
Dude! You said "Eddyville" Iowa...holeeeeeee crap! They used to have a drag-strip there and me and a friend went there back in the late 80s just to see what was in the area. We made one pass and my buddy set the track record...wanna know why? GRAVEL SHUT DOWN AREA!!! That's right, I think it was a 1000ft track or an 1/8th, but it had a gravel shut down area and my buddy's bike did well over 100 in the 8th back in the day. He was way ahead of me, don't know what I was doing (speed wise), but when I hit the gravel I about soiled my shorts, all I could see in front of me was a red tail light on a built, stretched, slammed, and strutted Z-1 with a ton of gravel dust in between us. Can you imagine going WELL over 100mph on gravel on a bike that's raked and on struts?...he brought it in, though.
The announcer was a little ... um, er, ... "back water"-ish  and we had been making fun of his "gimme a great big doo-dah!" thing that he'd say and make the crowd go nuts. When we got the bikes under control and we were shaking our way back to the pits there were people waiting for us patting Dan on the back telling him how cool it was to see a bike go that fast. Ha!!! When he got his helmet off he was cussing like a sailor about the shut down area. ...we packed it up and went home...they were trying to get us on the microphone for a commentary and give Dan a tropy as we were driving out the gate, but Dan was pissed (). There had to have been 3 thousand people there in that little town at that little track...just amazing.
Dan cussed all the way back to Topeka. ...Eddyville...haaaaaa! :woohoo:

Oh yeah: I drive 112 miles door to door every other day. (M/W/F), so about 225 round trip. Some days I take a bike, some days I don't, just depends on what I have to have with me. This is going to change in the next few years (maybe months) ... it's not the long-term plan.

Nate, nothing wrong with that. I spent some time on the tracks out that way in the first half of the eighties with the MO Pacific.I was on a district tie gang.

I work for UPRR here. I Hired on with the UPRR on the former Rock Island/Oklahoma Kansas Texas territory in the Mo Pac Kansas City local. I didn't have an identity crisis! In fact for the first few years my expense checks were issued from Mo Pac and my paychecks from UPRR. I started in Enid, OK in 1991.

I remember when they abandoned the Atchison to Concordia line. I thought it was a mistake then and nothing has changed my mind since.

I've run across a lot of people that worked for a railroad at one time or another. At least I'm in a craft where I am home the great majority of the time which makes it easier to stay with the company.

I lived in Atchison when I started at 21 and put in ties all the way to Concordia. It was an interesting lifestyle at the time. The money was very good.By the time I left we were the UPRR too.The merger was really in the works..We had a six state territory. Omaha on the north,Pueblo, CO on the west, Little Rock on the south and to Tulsa and St. Louis on the east. I got around a bit.
