HELP...I HAVE a 1981 kz 750ltd, with pickup coils, the left side with a screw driver, works some times, the right side works all of the time, is there a adjustment or some way to check to see why it doesn't work all of the time..and can i just buy one side of the pickup coil..thanks john

A number of people on the site have had this problem (me too). I just replaced the entire pick-up unit with a used one off of eBay. It cost me about $25. some others suggest going to an aftermarket Dyna system, but that will cost you about $150 or so.

mine short out or lose contact also, I think that if a guy has an ice pick, he can push the contact in and replace the wires. not sure though.
I was going to try it with my bad ones and see what happens, i am not sure if they are soldered in place inside or not though.

it looks like they are just pushed in like a speaker wire would be in a truck or car to me though.

Mine is an 81 kz750E2.
