Buy The Parts Bike Too! was created by roy-b-boy-b
I bought a 1991 ZX600 Ninja yesterday for $300.00. The owner had a 1989 also for $100.00. I took both. The "91" has been sitting for 10 years and has 14,000 miles. The other bike was a stolen recovery and someone rode it like they stole it and it has 40.000 miles.
I stripped the fairing off and yanked the carbs to clean them. Installed battery and chased down wires.
I had fire, gas, and air and the blasted thing wouldn't start. Tried every thing i knew and nothing!
I went to town this morning and bought plugs and enough stuff to do a coil relay installation.Got all that sorted out and nothing!
Finally removed the pulse coils from the other bike and it fired right up.
That was a hundred bucks well spent.I probably would have took a week to get the parts for the bike.
So i learned always buy the parts bike.
The guy i bought the bike off of got a phone call one day asking him if he had the title for the bike that was stolen. He said yes and he would bring it over. He took the state police with him and recovered the bike that was stolen. It even has a up graded exhaust with a nice canister.

I went to the courthouse yesterday with the guy i bought them from and we got titles for both of them.
I am now going to town to pressure wash the runner and then come home and install the header and body parts. Then i will try and wire the tail lights. I need to look up a picture of the rear of the "91" Ninja to see what the rear looks like.I know the "88" is butt ugly in the rear.
I might try and fire the "88" and see how it runs. It was running when it was recovered. I'll probably need the jetts out of those carbs for the header. Roy

I got the bike washed and came home and pulled the carbs to see if any crud had broke loose. It had very little so i blew them out and installed the allen head fasteners instead of screws.
I didn't want to ride without a filter so i covered the carbs with a long john shirt sleeve. The bike screamed down the road. It has awsome front brakes! Any ho,I let off the throttle and the thing was stuck on 4000 rpm.No problem hit kill button and pull over. I thought the cloth had got sucked up in one carb but no it wasn't. Now the question. Does these carbs need some restriction to pull enough vacum to raise the slides? After i removed the cloth the bike wouldn't go past 6000 rpm. It ran fine. 4250 rpm@55mph.
I will post a pic soon. My camera is at the Peterbilt shop in Missouri and the wife frowned when i wanted to use her new one.
I can't find a stock air box and the pods cost $150.00. Roy

The red is too coarse you'll need to rejet with the red:whistle: . But seriously 3M makes a real fine white scotchbrite pad that I think would work pretty good.

I have been looking for aftermarket filters for the bike and the only kind that will work are K+N. They are quite expensive. Then i will have to find some jets and take some time to dial the carbs in. Roy

Nice score!

Don't the scotch brite pads have abrasive imbedded in them?

You can probably go to a home center and buy a sheet of foam air-filter material cheap for lawn mowers. But they need a coating of motor oil to work right.
