CAUTION: LONG BORING POST !!!
Yesterday, buddy comes into the salvage yard where I work and wants to know if we've got any KZ650 parts bikes. I ask him what he needs and which 650 he has.
Well, he needs throttle cables and a few bits and bobs for his....wait for it....650C2. I said: Really. Are you sure it's a C2?? Yup, says buddy. I said: Well, take a look at this baby.
I walk him over to MY C2 and he eyes it all over. Well, it's the same, says buddy, but mine's red and has a fuel warning light in the tach. Oh, oh, says I. Someone may have changed the bodywork/tank and tach. Are you absolutely sure the headstock sticker says KZ650C at the beginning of the VIN ?? Yup, says buddy. A few more questions by me but he's totally convinced he's got a C2. He says there's one for sale on Ebay right now. We go into the office and fire up the computer and.....
no points cuz it's too easy....the Ebay bike is a 650D1.
I say: Check out the 16" rear wheel, no tailpiece, standup taillight, etc etc.
Gee, says buddy, I was SURE the VIN sticker said KZ650C.
Well, says I, you can see the differences for yourself.
Buddy is still shaking his head at this point, as if not believing his eyes. I'm laughing my head off....inside.
He got the bike for FREE....AND IT RUNS. It was stood outside for ~15 years and was seized when he got it.
He pulled the plugs, poured some diesel fuel into each cylinder, let it sit for a week or so and then put a socket and bar on the end of the crank....and she turned over, just like that. He cleaned the carbs up, put a new battery in and away she went!!!
It looks like another survivor will be hitting the road in CowTown shortly. Is this a great country, er whut??!!
 :woohoo:
Pics to follow if/when he brings it into the yard for further "identification".

Thnaks for that tip, ran429. I pass it along and I'll also be telling him to pull the sump plate off, as well.
It's always nice to make sure the oil pump screen is not totally clogged up with crud.
The guy might JUST have a winner.....
