That was the whole point of the sport that spawned the machines.

Bull. If you take a Ducati 1098 down a dirt path it's not a dirtbike, it's a superbike with a bad owner. :silly:

i dont care what the bike is,i cant afford a 1098 but Ducati, GSXR, YZF, HD they can all do something off road.and with good ground clearance and being that light bet that 1098 would be fun in the gravel.
..... I'm sorry, did you just say that a GSXR can "do something offroad"? :woohoo:

A motard is a streetable dirtbike with street tires. It's an awesome bike for hauling ass through the twisties and the occasional dirt romp. The DRZ is popular with many people in SoCal, but I wouldn't want to take one on a long trip.
Closest explanation I have seen.
Right now, on the street, in the mountains of the east coast, and especially at the Dragon, they are ruling the twisties.
At the track, got a report of one passing a rider on the outside line in a curve, quite the accomplishment I guess.
My independent mechanic is averaging about one bike a month I'd say, installing $1K worth of black fat wire excel rims and super stickies. And reporting back big smiles.
Like the bikes of old, change the tires and change your venue: dirt, street, track. Best idea I have heard of in years. Only problem I see is IIRC a $6K new bike sticker.
84 GPZ750. Modded with stock Kawasaki parts: ZR-7 shock, ZX-6 coils, GPZ1100 throttle, EN454 brake, GPZ900 fuse box, etc. and non stock: Ken Sears mirrors, K&N filter, Pirelli Sport Demons.

That doesn't make it a dirtbike. It makes it a sportbike with an owner that has too much free time!
Point being that bikes aren't classified strictly by what you ride them on. Riding your MX bike on the highway doesn't make it a streetbike. Riding your sportbike offroad doesn't make it a dirtbike. Riding your endure into a lake doesn't make it a jet-ski.
