Just a reminder to everyone to ride safe and watch out for the cagers. As some of you know I drive a firetruck and today am on duty . We ran a wreck, a CBR954RR? that had hit the curb while evading a car that had switched into his lane. The guy was unconscious and had a bad fracture to his upper left arm.Swollen up like a cantelope. He had on a full face and a light leather jacket but dress shoes and slacks. Tore up his right kneecap too.We got him loaded in the ambulance quick!
So just remember to be careful!Bike was pretty broken up as it slid 100 feet or so.It hits close to home when I see this.

I hear ya. Even though I've never gone down, I've seen the aftermath of a friend who has. Not wearing the proper riding gear will always turn ugly in a crash no matter how small of one. People think I'm crazy (or stupid) for always gearing up from head to toe especially in the summer months. But, my gear is the only thing between my skin and the pavement. I'll suffer wearing the hot sweaty gear over getting skin grafts any day.

Been through it too.No way I will ride without
a helmet.Driver licenses need to be harder to get.
They worry about motorcycle training which is good,
but many cage drivers are just horrible. My neibhor
is 90,can barely make it to the mailbox,is routinely
on oxygen, yet he drives a big SUV.

Regardless of age, many people seem incapable of handling their vehicle (or are completely incompotent, take your pick).

I had an XS650 completely creamed by a Hummer once. Driver was healthy, young enough, sober....they just had an aversion to actually paying attention.

I can't tell you how many times someone has come up next to me from behind and tried to merge me out of existance only to stop at the last minute with a shocked look of "oh! Sorry! I didn't see your rumbling, bright blue, well lit, motorcycle as I drove up next to you"

I'm telling you, it's a madhouse out there. My first ex is a bus driver and she'd tell countless stories of people who just "didn't see" the 40' yellow beast full of kids with flashing 4 ways going.

So....what the heck WERE you looking at?!

Thanks for the heads-up reminder John.

I do hope that rider recovers fully.

My tactic for dealing with cagers is to treat every last one of them like they're all out to get me. Not all paranoid-like, just extra defensive.
Actually I'm more of an offensive rider though, and make it a point to be seen!
Riding with the high beam on during the daytime (if allowable in your city/state) certainly helps too. :)
