I WAS using a Chatterbox alarm system, that I won on ebay last year, and today I was checking things out, getting the bike ready in case We take it on a trip here, but the weather forecast doesn't look too good anyway,so We'll be taking the Pathfinder.:(

Anyway...the alarm wouldn't "Beep" when it was activated, but I could hear it clicking,to say that it WAS activating.

Upon further inspection, this is what I found(see pic)...
I thought these things were supposed to hold up to motorcycle vibration...P.M.O.!

You can see the part down in the lower right-hand corner that completely vibrated away from it's soldered contacts.
So Who's uses an alarm, and what brand are You using, and how long have You been using it?
Thanks...

I don't use an alarm, but I'll occasionally allow feelings of paranoia to drive me to lock the wheel.

Ya,I'm going to take a second look at it and see if I can solder it back on.
Question is...how long before it happens again,if I DO get it to work?

Rubber grommets might help,when I remount it,but hey...come on now...it's MADE for a motorcycle.

long time ago i bought one of those disc locks with the alarm built into it, it was expensive and i rarely use it anymore. you need to be real quick when unlocking it to get it off before the alarm goes off. it grounds out on the rotor and any movement sets it off, especially trying to unlock it

The board you show looks Chinese. Not a heavy duty board made for vibration, that's for sure. The heaviest parts are the most likely to come loose from vibration, and that's why that transformer came loose. If you try to fix the board, glue the transformer to the board with a little silicon sealer between it and the board. This will hold it to the board and the solder should hold up better.
To answer about alarms, I've been lucky, I've never locked any of my motorcycles or owned an alarm of any kind and I've parked everywhere from Newark, NJ to Las Angeles and every place in between and never had a problem yet. Knock on wood.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

Easy solution. Encase it in epoxy!

Got it!
That was some pretty intricate soldering, but I got it.No idea how long it will last, and yes...I also jb'd the transformer, because like Ron mentioned...it probably IS the heaviest part on the board.
I jb'd it to the base, and afterwards,I added some more to the sides of it for some extra support.
Epoxy would have worked too...good call,but I didn't have any,but I ALWAYS have the cold-weld.

Thanks Guys!B)
