Anyone race their KZ?
15 Jun 2007 11:50
I just got out on my KZ for the first time last Wednesday. Took it to the local dragway. My KZ is a stock 78 kz1000LTD. My best time was 12.68 @ 104mph. I had a blast! Can't wait to do it again. Does anyone else out there race? (yeah....kind of a stupid question)
Tell me how you're doing. What are you running?

they let you on the track over there without full protective gear? wow.
you should really think about getting a full race suit to protect yourself in the event of a woopsie.
I would like to hit the strip on my 750 or 900 some day, just have to seal up some leaking seals and im on it.
but it also costs a couple dollars i havent got right now.

My dad raced my KZ900 all the time back in the late 70's/early 80's. Think the fastest it ran was a 10.20 @ 130mph when he had the turbo on it.
I just pulled the bike out of storage. Maybe I'll take it to the strip sometime this summer.

Ran my 650/810 in the 1/8 drags last summer and it was a hoot. Here is a pic of my getting the jump on a slammed and punched out 500 triple. I had him all the way down the track and was told I won by about 5 lengths.
I didn't tell him I had an 810.

Actually I have been a member on here for a few years. I just never really post anything, but read a lot. That is out at Milan Dragway in Milan, Michigan. Full protective gear is not required unless you run faster than 120mph in the 1/4 mile. I am planning on upgrading the coils and to electronic ignition later this summer, but for now I am happy to just race it the way it is. I was very hesitant at first and will even say I was afraid to whole shot that bike because of the power. That is not the case any longer. I can not wait to get out and tear up the track again! Here's another pic, it was my first run, I can tell by the fact that I do not have gloves on (a requirement) and because I do not have my face shield down.

I've had mine out a few times, best was an 11.68 at 115 mph. Normally runs 11.8s and 9s, for the 1/4 I run a 15 tooth front and a 35 rear. I just hate running against snowmobiles!
