Wow..it's been a while since I visited this forum. I still have my 'Zuki TL1000S, I've been riding the wheels off of it since I got it last year. I do miss that little KZ550 though. Working that TL through the twisties can be a workout, but man I love the torque it has. The only thing I dislike about it is it's tendency to chew up rear tires. It originally had Dunlop D208's on it, lasted about a month (1500 miles), then I tried Bridgestone BT014's..only lasted 2500 miles. I decided that this was going to be expensive if I kept this up, so I opted to try a harder compound, and got a set of Michelin Pilot Roads. These were capable tires, the rear lasted a little over 10K miles before a nail finished it off (still had about a 32nd of tread left). The only thing I disliked about them was I got no feedback from them. I could be in a hard lean in a corner, and the rear would step out with no warning. Thankfully, it was always just a little bit. I'm currently running a Continental Road Attack on the rear, I have nothing but good things to say about it. I've been able to push it harder than I could with the Michelin with no slippage.

So what's new with you guys? I rode with KZJohn, JoeK, DutchZ, and a few others last year, shortly after I got the TL. These guys still around? I hope all is well with the KZ community. Ride safe!

Glad you checked in!
There's a ride scheduled for June 23, we're going from Cajone Junction to Big Bear Lake, and back.
There's a rider in your area that might go, he's Bluemeanie. If you want to go, why don't you send him a PM and find out if you guys can hook up.
Check out the Events-test under Members for details.

Lol BlueMeanie! I'm not the fastest guy on a bike, but I hold my own. Where do you like riding at? My favorite route has to be Sage and Wilson Valley Road, then go up through Anza to Idyllwild, then down the hill to Banning. Unfortunately, I won't be doing much riding in that area that much when it gets warmer, unless I leave around 6-7am so I can be home when it really starts heating up.

Done that ride a few times (story for another day about me and a big pot hole up in Anza/371) I do Palomar Mountain sometimes when I think I'm a crotch rocket and then really quickly find out I'm not! :woohoo: More local, I enjoy up Rancho Cal road over to Deluz Trail into Fallbrook. Watch out for those wet/slime spots tho. And of couse my personally favorite, Look Out point on the Ortega on a Sunday morning! I'm easy to spot, the ONLY old KZ there! Yea, heat is coming on and "our" riding season is slowing down. PS, "rear tire stepping out without warning"? Wow, when I replace a worn out rear tire it's bald in the middle and the tit's are STILL on the edges!:woohoo: You ride way harder than I ever will! LOL

I've never been up the Ortega, might have to try that next Sunday. What time do you usually roll out that way? Palomar is fun, but it isn't my favorite riding spot. De Luz is a great road too, as long as you don't hit the green slime.

My "chicken stips" are about a 1/4" wide on each side..and it's a 190/50 tire lol.

I won't be going up this Sunday as my wife is letting me go on Saturdays KZR ride, which is also our wedding anniversary! So I owe her Sunday. But you should hit it about 9-10ish, will be plenty of bikes hauling up there. Check it out and report back, it's a great ride.
