My Z1 maiden voyage to girdwood pics!
05 Jun 2007 10:40
May 18th- I took the Z1 for it's longest ride to date, like since 1989! About a 200 mile "shakedown" cruise- my woman rode on my buddies Valkryie and took shots- this is the ride to Girdwood, Alaska, possibly one of the most beautiful rides on the planet- she took great shots, at random, and believe it or not, some of them STILL don't do the beauty justice! This is the most popular Alaskan ride for most bikers- a tradition if you will!
1975 Z1 B 900- soon to be heavily modded
Pahoa, Hawaii is my new hom
I am working hard to save up the shipping money to get my shop opened here in Hawaii
I hate electrical stuff.

Wow, Great pics. I second my own motion to have a topic on here for tours and pics.
Beautiful country. Can you tell us a little more about the route?

This is the road to Seward Alaska from Anchorage Alaska. It is considered possibly the most beautiful roadways on the planet- it used to be very dangerous, lots of blind corners and what not- one of the most deadly hiways in America- but once they fixed it- it became the best hi speed motogp like ride on the planet:P
It is about a 50 mile ride, each way- and traditionally- you go about another 15 miles farther to Portage glacier and the Whittier tunnel. Whittier was made as a defense installation in WW2- only an atom bomb could take it out- it was even protected from smart bombs during the cold war! It was very hard to even hit the thing with an a-bomb- you had to hit it direct on target because of the massive mountains surrounding the fjord/harbour- and has all hardened defense installations in the sides of the mountains- with tunnelling connecting it all- it now has a toll road that takes you there- so we ride up to that, and turn around.
You see a couple glaciers, some moose etc on the way there as well-
but we all park at the "shop"- at the girdwood turn off- and park and admire each others bike.
The Z1 is one of the most popular bikes there- I get more attention than the Ducatis there!
