I'm looking at one tomorrow. Not running of course. 1973, Yellow, owner sez tires are good. $100.

My only two two strokes have been a $1 Vespa that I had back in 6th grade and a Puch moped that got me back into bikes about 3 years ago.

I need to know what to look for that's gonna make getting this thing going cost more than $50...(woods bike for deer hunting this fall). I know enough about two stroke that the exhaust needs to be in good shape. Otherwise I'm clueless..

Hi Duck, I'd volunteer to go along, but it would have to be after 3:30 pm or so.

Compression, especially since the rings create the vacuum for the incoming charge.

Fire.

If it's a broken CDI system you want to know that early.

Carburetors on a bike that old. . .make sure it has all the parts; air filter.

If the engine is seized, it could have a broken oil pump or mis-mixed gas did it in.

If it has everything there, for a $100.00 bucks it isn't going to break the budget for anything on it most likely.

If it's a 175-250, there is enough power to get you into trouble.

Thanks. It's on my return trip from Canton tomorrow. It's around 400-285 area. Seller will give me exact address when I get ready to leave. Remind me where you live again?

A small group of Linux enthusiasts meet for dinner and beer every Tuesday night. Marty and I ride. Israel rides but seldom shows. Ed has a Bandit 1200 that his wife is making him sell because he fell off. Chris rides a bicycle...very fast...fixed gear. We're meeting at Thinking Man's tavern in Decatur this coming Tuesday. Target is 7PM. You're welcome to join us. 404-TAA-TALK is my cell phone.

OK. I was worried that it might have some unobtainium seal between the crank case and the gear box that was known to go bad :-).

Trouble?!?! Isn't that the the purpose of this exercise? Seriously...aside from short power band, attendant surprise compression braking, and crappy drum brakes...what's to get me into trouble :-).

Duck ~ You'll find that the F11 shares many parts with other models like the 350 Bighorn. The Kawasaki Cross Refernce can be a great help there. Factory manuals are still available (I got mine off Ebay) but are generalized covering that whole era of two-strokes.

I ended up parting mine out. It did quite well grossing about $700 on Ebay. Most of the parts went to Europe where they are quite popular for vintage motocross.

I still have a few parts left if you find you need something (rims, cylinder head and tank (orange)).

Engine-wise, the only difference between the 250 and the 350 is the top end and carb size.

Duck:
Those are tough bikes. The F11 has, if memory serves, the rotary valve engine and it makes very nice power.
A buddy of mine had a '73 175 (F7??) and he never had any problems keeping up with us guys on our 250's.
The F11 is well built (read heavy) but what Japanese dirt bike wasn't, back in the day. They've got a fair amount of torque for a stroker and they're actually a fun play-bike, not a serious cross-country racer.
I think you'll enjoy it. Let us have some pics if the deal goes ahead.

KZ650C2 Stock/mint. Goes by "Ace".
H2A Built from a genuine basket case. Yes,it's a hot rod.
GT550A Stock/mint. Pleasant stroker.
2006 Bandit 1200S for easy LD rapid transit
Various H2 projects in the wings.

The guy with the 250 has put me off until 8:30 tonight. Must look bad if he wants to wait until dark :-)

Just got the plugs out of the Z1A head. Might not need inserts after all. Had to use an impact wrench to get them out and thought for sure that the threads would come out with the plugs.

Took cam cover off and camshafts look great. Doused them with oil before turning her over. No/low compression so maybe sticky exhaust valves. I see that in lawnmowers all the time :-) The poor thing sat on dirt under a tarp that camp all the way to the ground for a long time.

Will report on 250 when I get home around 10PM
