Z1 Diamond in the Rough?
25 Oct 2006 06:13
Hello all! I'm trying to figure out if I found a good deal on a Z1 or a great deal on a diamond in the rough?
I took a KZ in trade for an old, no-title sportster that has been sitting in my garage. The guy thought the bike was a '75 and it sounded like a fun project. When I got the bike and title, I was shocked to see that it was a Z1! Not only a Z1, but Vin #308!
I know that a '73 Z1 is a great bike, but is having that low of a VIN a big deal? Just trying to figure out if I have something worth "restoring" or a cool bike to tinker with and make with my own mods!
Any help would be great! Thank you all!

Put up some pics, and the complete vin #. Motor number too. So is it a 73 or 75?

Agreed, pics and a complete VIN would be a good start.
If everything's jake, it could be worth ridiculous money as is - I've seen exporters to the Jap home market go utterly bannanas on 'em.
Hell, I've been offered enough for mine to walk into a Hardley Dealer and ride back out if I cared to go that route.
A clean restoration of a '73 Z is worth upwards of $25k over there - with a low number and a decent salvageable/restoreable part count, it's hard to guess what the value might be...

HI! The VIN on the frame is Z1E-00308 and the VIN on the engine is Z1F-00338
I'll post some pictures tonight...it's not very pretty, but it does run (And he gave me the original Green tank that was on it).
Thanks all!
Daryl

Guys, I think we are all really happy for Daryl. Some, including myself, are even a little envious:sick: .
But the best part of this story is that he got rid of a Harley in the deal. He denounced the dark side and joined the good guys.
I think that karma has properly rewarded him for his actions:laugh:
Congratulations Daryl, This could be the start of a beautiful friendship.
(a man and his bike, it brings a tear to your eye:whistle: )

I've got more pictures if anyone is insterested....I was off on the engine number (It is 317, not 338). I think that is better being closer to the VIN number.
Now I have to figure out what to do with this bike....Restoration? Tune it up and ride the "Beep" out of it? Sell it and put an addition on the garage (hahahaha).
Thanks for all the info everyone!!!
