I have the 1000 B1 and B2 parts catalog and it calls out the airbox as the same as the 1000 A1. Part (11011-065).

Yet one more attempt.  I have a copy of an old Kawasaki part search software for windows.  Looking up 11011-065 and 11011-1006, it confirms that both were superseded by 11011-1025.  This should confirm that 11011-065, 11011-1006 and 11011-1025 should be completely interchangeable.

Unfortunately, those old part numbers are no longer associated with any specific model in this software, so I still don't have any way to figure out which part came on which model.

It's also possible that this was actually a running change during production and may not be model specific.  Who knows.

The reason why I care is that I have three Z1Rs, and none of them came with the original airbox.  I'd like to find the "right" one to replace them with, but I have not been able to figure out a way to be certain which type is correct.

According to the application list at Partzilla, the main body was used on the 1977-80 KZ1000A, B(LTD), C (copcycle), and D (ZR-1).

After a brief investigation, the only difference I can see in all those models is that the Z1R used a different bracket on the carburetor side, otherwise all the parts seem to be the same.

Tex. What I have found using Partzilla and CMSNL is they want to sell parts. They list parts that are functional as interchangeable, not so much year correct. That’s why they list the same airbox for 4 different models. That’s also why I’m constantly searching for original print hard copies of parts catalogs. The ones available over the internet that are electronic copies have had updated superseded part numbers inserted.

DOHC, I’d say the one Moose posted is the Z1R. It does not use the holder plate, but the rest is the same. Just a guess. Sure wish I could find a hard copy 1000 A2 catalog. It’s hard to imagine they made a new airbox for the A2 similar to the Z1R, but not outright impossible as they built a one year only seat for the 1978 Kz1000A2.

I did trip across this in the FSM for the ‘78 A2A, the MKII, and the 1980 D3. But can you trust the didn’t use stock photos in the manual. It shows the airbox same as the 1977 (11011-065)

Yes, that's my guess as well.  The fact that the fiche from '77 for the Z1R-D1 does not show the plate is the most convincing evidence I've managed to find.

The airbox I put on my blue '78 Z1R does not have the holder plate, but when I picked that up I don't think I realized there was more than one option.  I just happened to find the right one.

Here is my collection of manuals.
