Just picked up this 81 750 ltd and she is beyond rough. It’s an electrical nightmare so I’m currently sorting all that out. Then I will be going through the brakes Hopefully when I get it started the engine is solid and runs strong.

How much did you drop the front? You going with struts or short shocks in the rear and what is the seat from? It seems to fit fairly well.

I didn’t drop the front end any yet. Going with hard tail struts. And the seat is off of a 2013 Harley Electra glide. It does fit really well but it’s bulky.

Well I pulled the carb’s apart and what a mess they are. Someone has definitely been in them before that didn’t know what they were doing. Have them soaking in some simple green and water they are cleaning up nicely. Good news the rubber diaphragms were In perfect condition.

Nice to see someone doing a proper carb clean-up, with full breakdown. I've got full O-ring kits for those carbs, in case you are in need. If you want to source them yourself, these are the required sizes...
Pilot Screw: 1.2 x 2.0
Pilot Plug: 1.5 x 2.8 or 1.5 x 3.0
Fuel Tee, Transfer Tubes: 2.0 x 5.5
Drain Screws: 1.4 x 4.0 or 1.5 x 4.0
Float Bowl: 2.0 x 67

A few tips I've learned (the hard way) regarding those carbs...
The primary main jets love to seize in the carb body. Some heat may help, but often times, the slot gets buggered. And I've had carbs where the threads pulled out of the carb body before.
The bleed pipe is below the primary main, and needs to come out for cleaning since the passage is super small.
The fuel Tee plastic part sometimes cracks. Inspect carefully.
The pilot screw spring, O-ring and small steel washer often stay down into the carb passage when you pull out the screw. A piece of stiff wire with a small J bent into the end will help get them out.
Using super glue in the float bowl groove helps hold the new O-ring in place. Tape the O-ring down, until it dries, then install the bowl.
Keyster float needles are the best, other than OEM Keihin.
The choke plates are fiddly to get aligned properly. I install them with loose screws on the butterflies, then snug down the screws after everything is closing smoothly. And use Red loctite on the screws.

Do you have float bowl gaskets as well?

Those carbs use an O-ring to seal the float bowl. Not a gasket. And yes, i have them. They are round, and require superglue or some adhesive to hold them in the groove befor installing the bowl.

So I’ve gone a slightly different direction on this build. I’m going a cafe racer route with it. I ordered a set of clubman handlebars and bar end mirrors. Was starting to clean up the chrome and realized that it was pealing on the rear fender pretty bad. So I sandblasted it and painted it gloss black. Got to looking at my mufflers and they are literally rotted away on the inside. I might try to find a cheap 4 into 1 for it or figure something out for the mufflers. Was honestly thinking about cutting off the mufflers past the crossover tube and welding on some exhaust turndowns to give it that muscle car side pipe look. Maybe even fab up some baffles to slide in and out. Here is the rear fender.

Got the clubman handlebars installed and a few other things. It’s starting to look like a bike again lol.
