It is a very early one frame number is 1719 the engine number is 1724 so it appears to be all original. Left hand engine cover loos like a replacement they painted the engine covers black, probably when the tins got over pained. The doily pant mask was very well done. It oozes the 1970's.
Can't say I have ever seen spark plugs like these before.
- The ignition is definitely an odd ball. I have some reading to do.

If I knew what I was doing all the time life wouldn't be any fun.

Those are what they call Surface Gap Plugs. The '69 to '71 H1 came with that type of plugs. They are SUPER COLD heat range wise!!!!
Its a little bit colder than a B9HS.

Wow, ok I know nothing about the Triples. I do know that patina only happens once. I’d do a mechanical restoration to it and proudly ride that time capsule.

69 thru 71 had electronic ignition which proved problematic and KHI switched to points ignition in 72.

WOW! Just WOW.
I'd like to hear the story how this 'find' came about.

19 Jul 2022 12:1669 thru 71 had electronic ignition which proved problematic and KHI switched to points ignition in 72.
Kawasaki in '72 offered both the CDI H1A and the points H1B models that year. Kawasaki only made the mistake of putting points ignition on the H1 that one model year.
The H1/KH500 had electronic ignition for the rest of the years it was produced.
The H1B and the S series triples were a real pain in the ass to keep running at peak performance because of the weak points ignition those bikes came with!!!!
I owned Kawa triples with both styles of ignitions in the past. I would NEVER AGAIN own a triple with points ignition!!!!

19 Jul 2022 12:24Couldn't agree more, my KH400 ran faultlessly on "Boyer Bransden" electronic ignition.69 thru 71 had electronic ignition which proved problematic and KHI switched to points ignition in 72.

My first bike was a 71-H1, back in about 1974. Needing more power I had the engine built to near H1R specs. I then drag raced it regularly until I sold it and bought a 750 H2. You are definitely lucky to find one. Good luck on the resto, and may the good times keep on Rollin.....p.s. I wish I had a barn.

My real first motorcycle was a candy red metallic S1 aka KH 250.
I have upgrade the hp with KH 400 parts, like pistons, cylinder, (S1, S2 and S3 shares the same crank lift) and carbs.
That thing runs and sounds like a beast out of the hell like the H1!

Not to pick on it? But What about the shape of the crank bearings and seals??? Hope someone over-filled the crankcase with oil as it sat for 30-40 years! I remember selling a drum brake H1 frontend to Nova Scotia off of this site, around 2001-2. The bike had a candy ribbon paint job. And 2 rectangle Chopper headlights. OH Boy! I wish I had the pictures still!

Rebuild the crank, or pay someone if you are faint of heart. Problem solved. Looks like a fun project.

Re: 1969 H1 Barn Find
19 Jul 2022 17:30 - 19 Jul 2022 17:30Meh, it's a two stroke, I assume the engine is blown up, because if it wasn't someone would have driven it until it blew up. These bikes were not exactly driven by little old ladies to church on Sunday. I rebuilt my 1300, this thing has half the cylinders and like WAY less valves to deal with. Not to pick on it? But What about the shape of the crank bearings and seals??? Hope someone over-filled the crankcase with oil as it sat for 30-40 years!
