Re: And finally, Wookie's 82 begins !
09 Jun 2026 03:05Thanks for the "heads up" Daveo (glad I read this today and not last nightI will measure tomorrow and let you know (mine are 72mm though - 1075)Reference screenshot of your May 7 post attachment below:
I'm curious what the measured distance of your valve pockets are compared with the reworked Wiseco pistons in my 84 J motor shown below:
🙂
After looking closer at that piston screenshot, it appears your piston crown closely resembles a Wiseco 4502M07200 piston supplied with K10751 kits for 76-80 KZ900 and KZ1000 motors.
...vs. the 4548M07200 piston for the 81-83 KZ1000-J motors, and provided in the Wiseco K1076 kit shown below:
🤔
Hope I'm mistaken about this, but thought it best to share a potential concern...

The newer 4302M07500 K1172 kit pistons were 62mm too...initially.
Might want to clay a piston, with those beauteous ZX1100A camshafts.

10 Jun 2026 06:09I think what's there will be fine (plates are new) I need to stop changing things and just get it finished nowConsider installing a six-bolt clutch for added resilience...

Well, that can always happen later, after you've burnt it out.

I'm getting ever closer to finishing this thing
I spent yesterday making a couple of tools to assist in setting the cams up, a locking bar to hold the cams when at TDC to get the initial timing (I'm using slotted sprockets) and a substitute for the guide in the cam cover so that I can rotate the motor with the cam cover off and the tensioner set (I needed to be able to do this to dial in the lobe centres) Both worked like a charm with the cams only needing slight adjustment for the lobe centres. Just need to swop the stator into the polished cover and tidy up the engine wiring ready for Quofan coming over on Friday to assist in fitting the motor without scratching anything
One little conundrum was with the head gasket, the holes in the four corners are way too small for the factory "O" rings ?? I didn't want to mod the gasket as the sealing area between the oil way and the fire ring is pretty narrow but the OE "O" rings are two thick to fit under the gasket !!!! after much head scratching I decided to use some generic nitrile "O" rings that would fill the rebate in he block but where only sightly proud so would compress under and support the gasket (time will tell) !!
You may have noticed that in the one pic the cam sprockets are loose on the cams, this is because I like to set the pistons down the bore a little until the head is on and the cams are in the correct position then bring the pistons up to TDC (this eliminates any risk of causing damage during installation)
