Still pushing forward, forks are ready to go back on (will give a final buff when I'm done handling them) new bushes, seal, "O" rings etc - (my tool worked like a dream
) I have added an extra 35cc of oil in each to take account of the increased air gap with the extensions. Also made a start on the lower tree, I've got all the old paint off (will be painted again) but I like to remove the casting "flashes" not necessary but I think it makes a cheap OE part look much nicer

Been browsing your thread Wookie. Lots of labor and love in this build.
Question though: what year Zx6/9 parts did you use? I think I saw C1 for the 900 which equals 1998. I was thinking of using the same 98/99 900 forks for a build I have waiting in the wings.

Re: And finally, Wookie's 82 begins !
16 Feb 2025 15:42The forks and trees are C1 900, the stem is 600 of the same era with the 46mm RWU forks (it's longer than the 900) the top bearing is the same as my 82 KZ and the bottom of the stem has been reduced to take a stock KZ bottom bearing (because of the material removed it has a stainless pin pressed up the centre 75mm to reinforce it) you need to get a little creative with the top nut and make a sleeve for the top tree as the 900 stem is thicker than the 600 (if you look back through the thread you will see how I overcame this) of if you have the budget a custom stem would be easierBeen browsing your thread Wookie. Small steps but still progress, got the trees wrapped up today. I thought I would post the pic to show guys on a limited budget you can still have "nice" if you put the work in. These were tatty so $40 from Ebay, I have filed and sanded the casting "flashes" off then polished the top and spayed the bottom with "rattle can" black enamel. With the risers I am easily less than $100 into these and I think they look great

I am one "HAPPY WOOKIE" right now
This project has really "turned a corner" this weekend and is finally looking less like a pile of parts. Rear shock is cleaned & reassembled with a freshly coated spring and lower cap and sitting in it's final resting place. Oil catch can and starter solenoid are on, as is the front end. Really glad now I spent the time on the frame, it's not perfect but it's no "show pony" and I'm more than satisfied.
