Picked her up last night at 7 and had her running by noon today! Previous owner generously provided me with a box of everything I needed, including two sets of CV32 carbs. All in all, very decent shape considering the price I paid, and feels strong. I have a few questions that you all might be able to help me with:

-Needs tires; 100/90-18 and 120/90-16, both tube-type. Where should I buy tubes from? I'm doing some looking but I don't quite understand the overall deal.

-Carb boots; OEM are about $90 for a pair, is there a less expensive alternative? I am aware that OEM is best. I'm looking to see if holders for 30 or 34 mm carbs will work.

-Airbox boots; I have a pair but they're rock-solid. None available that I can find, so I think I'll need to fabricate some. Any tips?

-Oil filter; I'll order an OEM filter if there's no in-store alternative. I use a K&N 401 for my 750 but any brand is okay with me.

I think that's all for now, mostly just little things. I'm pretty happy with what I've got, it's in much better shape than my 750 was when I brought it home.

Welcome aboard, and congratulations on your purchase.

The company you buy your tires from should have the tubes you need.

For OEM parts, Partzilla and Ron Ayers are good choices, with prices far below typical dealerships.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationNo eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationHowdy.  I didn't see an oil filter listed at Z1Enterprises.com. strange.  But there are various different brands listed on EB.  Single oil filters are usually expensive there, but you could buy a "lot" especially if you plan on keeping the motorcycle. a couple of examples linked below.

For the airbox ducts maybe try radiator hose or swimming pool flex pipe hose.

Since it's a small motorcycle, I'll suggest Dunlop 404s: reason being is that they have a soft bead which makes repairing/replacing the tubes easier and I wouldn't think you'd need a high performance tire.  I guess the 404s are still available & still have a soft bead. ???

Lot of 8 Vesrah oil filters. $25T.

Thanks very much! I was considering getting Shinko 712s (since I won't be riding the 305 hard) but I'm wary of them since tearing a bead when trying to mount one onto my 750. I'm going to try a 130/90-16 for the rear as opposed to the 120/80-16 that's recommended - since the original size is pretty hard to find. Plenty of space for the width, so we'll see how it sits on the rim.

You might try DennisKirk.com: you can search by make/model to find OEM size tires, and they should have tubes as well.

I have The same bike. But mine has a head light.
I love the bike. I use it as my everyday runabout. It's the smoothest parallel twin I have ever ridden, even at 70mph.

You noticed that, huh? Someone in the past seems to have tried to clear silicone a ~5" headlight into the stock 7" bucket, so it's on the list to replace. Very strange.

Not that you can't use a 7" headlight, but the stock 305 unit is smaller.  It's the same as a KZ400, but I forget exactly what size it is.
I guess to install a 7" you wouldn't use the diamond spacers. guessing.

Tires.  some guys (most?) don't like the 404s.  I've never ridden on them but did check 'em out at CycleGear several years ago to see what kind of bead they had.  I'm currently riding on Bridgestone BT45s.

FYI.  CandlePower had the 400 headlight info, but the site is now closed.  Before the Fukushima disaster, candlepower sold a headlight for the 400/440 but the factory is in the nuclear exclusion zone so they are NLA (I think candlepower had a 400 H4 upgrade >> lens unit & bulb).

The plot thickens. From what people want for used OE I might just pick up a Hella 500 or something...hmm.

My wife's 82 305 CSR had a blown low beam when we got it.  I replaced the whole assembly with this;

Emgo Black 7 in. Headlight - 66-64313

From Dennis Kirk.  New unit is a bit narrower at the mounting points, so I added a few nylon washers.  Appearance is much like the original.  Size is just right.  Steel bucket instead of original plastic.  Uses same thread 10mm bolts as original.

Little update: front 100/90-18 went on more or less okay, rear 130/90-16 did not. Tore the stem off of the tube and tore the bead of the tire - I'm starting to understand why college is expensive.

Any idea why the beads have torn?  I've only done a few tires, but each one had a hard bead.
I uses rim protectors, short & long tire irons, and Ru-Glyde lubricant.
