KZ750L4 rear wheel swap to match spoked front
03 Sep 2020 21:39
Hey guys. Doing a frame up restore of a Canadian 84 kz750L. I'll be putting gsxr forks in the front with a cognito stem and 18" front spoked wheel. Looking for a back wheel set up to run a spoked wheel to match.
Any ideas? I know the kz1000 had discs but are a different axle diameter . Some kz650s had a 16" rim/hub I can use and re lace to an 18" but it was drum. Not sure how to convert that to a disc. Specifically how to attach a rotor to it.
Thanks

I'm not familiar with the 1000 wheel but can new bearings with a smaller ID be used?

Smaller bike? I assume your using 530 chain?
Look around for a Harley Wheel & Hub, Simple 5 bolt for sprockets and rotors.
You seem to have the mechanical fortitude to do what you have so far with front end.
I did similar 8-9? yrs ago. I scored a complete with tire for $100. I had HD sprockets and 10" flat discs.
Some Guy bought it so quick when he seen it. I did not even finish the back fender and tail.
The HD's use .750" axles.
I did a ZZX 600 once? Welded on for struts Easy conversion for the swing arm. This was mock up in my city house / warehouse before I sold it.
Find a machinist friend with a Lathe and old Bridgeport mill.

Yeah I can change out the bearings of a 1000 but those hubs are impossible to find. Have thought about the Harley wheels but I'm looking to fit 4.25x85x18 vintage tires. Harley wheels are too wide.
Thanks for the replies guys
