KZ1000 MkII (A3, 1979) restoration

Hi all.

Relatively infrequent contributor to this form (I'm fairly active on the UK Honda SOHC forum, having restored several CB750's over the years).

I'm based in the UK & I thought I'd document the restoration of my 1979 KZ1000 A3. MkII on the forum here.

I stumbled across this bike last year, having purchased the original seat on eBay from the seller. I noticed he'd listed, and quickly sold several other '79 A3 parts and asked if he was parting-out a complete bike?. Long story short, he was parting out a complete bike and I managed to buy the remains of the bike he'd started parting out.

Quite why someone would part-out a complete, titled A3, is beyond me - but there you go. I just got lucky and managed to secure what remained of the bike.

By the time I'd agreed the purchase he'd sold the original paint set, carbs, airbox, coils, rear master cylinder to buyers in the US.

It's a remarkably original, low mileage bike. I'm not going to undertake an engine rebuild as the motor it low mileage and completely stock - I previously restored an '80 A4 and will follow the same approach as I took with that bike (the bike I most regret selling). This A3 will be a keeper for sure.

Thank you for saving another one. It looks like it has solid bones for a restoration, and I look forward to watching it come back to life.
