I've done it both ways but mostly as Slmjim described.  Once the cases go back together I'm able to lift the carcass into the frame.  Then, everything else goes on.
I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

Of all the indignities I have suffered in this life ...
I was eating a sandwich and minding my own business when this 63 split window parked next to me.

Beauty!  I mean the roadside diner!  And the vette is nice too!

Is the little yellow one far right a Nash?

As far as the vette, I’d say age before beauty.

The dinner, vette and what looks like a Nash Metropolitan to me are all interesting for their own reasons.

Yeah nothing like having a Metro!  A friend of my parents had one back in the day.  That little car was a hoot to ride in.  Don't know how it drove, but I do recall it didn't have a lot of pep to pass much.  3 on the tree and away you go.....eventually!

Now here is a Metro! Took this pic in Las Vegas at the "STRIP" 6-7 yrs. ago. Great Trip! Nitro Harleys were running! Nellis Air Force Base was flying all day Fri. & Sat. Thought I'd share. The yellow Metro triggered the memory! Plus that Z1 & split window are both in good company!  [ G
