That’s my term for scouring CL for deals. Dude Diligence and if you put in your time (with a bit of luck) you can score a sweet bike like this one owner 1980 that is so unmolested however not perfect. Why luck? Because I usually switch off the “dealer ads” but this day it was set to “all” otherwise I’d likely not seen this LTD at all. I called the place — located a scant 3+ hours away and spoke with the owner. It belonged to a friend of his, 64 YO going through a divorce...yada yada... and doesn’t ride it anymore. “So, I sez, has there been much interest”? “Hell yeah”, he quips...but they are all EXPORTERS and wanna beat me down”!!!

“No, no”, I sez, that bike can’t leave the country. I know they are doing this and so I wanna buy it right now over the phone”. And so I did. And before anyone asks (because I know it’s coming...2K) LOL, yeah. I’m kvelling and I ain’t even Jewish! It was quite a trip too, picked up a few LTD seats in great condition from a man 20 mins away from my destination that had, get this, 18 or so 73 to 82 KZs, MKIIs and a ZR1 some stock and some complete with upside down forks and swing arm mods. The PO took great care of the bike, not inferring anything about his marital (or mine for that matter) situation but Damn the Torpedos Man this thing has the stock exhaust and those add on chrome covers bits and Allen screws. I’ll be kvelling for weeks, months maybe, and I haven’t even started it.

It looks like the right side of the tank need some more attention, (rust under the paint).

Looks more like damage from leaking brake fluid. At least plain gloss black is an easy repaint.

Also curious which of the two sidecovers is correct?

Yeah the tank has what I’m thinking is rust under the paint under both sides under the emblems. Never seen this before especially since the rest of the bike is sans rust outwardly. It was treated on the inside and I plan on getting a new tank although I do have one already while I assess this one. A nice new stock paint scheme is in order for sure. I picked up a set of 29 mm smoothies (attached to a $350 83 GS750E) that will go on here. More importantly is how the electrical and cable routing is perfect or seemingly so. Not a pink or blue pastel crimped connector on it. I have a 78 that was butchered and so high res pics will be done to aid in that effort. I’ll turn 63 in April, retire, and live quietly in the countryside with my motorcycles and await the inevitable, “Hey Dad” texts from kids alerting me they need something. I’m looking forward to it.

Today’s DD, laced rims dealer takeoffs from a 78 kz1000 in almost new condition — again from over Boston way where I hope I didn’t contract Covid19 what with all those people going wherever they are going. Too many GD people I could almost see it spreading. Anyway, either my mongrel 76 KZ900 that has triple disks or my 78 KZ650 custom that I bought new will get these rims if I live that long.

Thanks Dave, Let’s give this a whack with todays DD shall we? Okay, so my purchase for today was up in Lebanon NH, a bike made in America in 73 who’s name I shall not mention but upon arriving I found that not only the driveway was steep but more akin to a glacier despite the salt he applied it was still 2” thick and although yes it was pitted I didn’t want this heavy, oh well, we did the paper work I got my needed documents and I’ll see you in 2 or weeks. But I had this perfectly good trailer hooked up and I needed to go pick up a KZ650 waaaay down in Enfield CT so what the hey, don’t be pussy, get cracking and rattle off a text and see if you can go get it now. So I did.

Might this problem be attributed to the fact that I am on an IPad that when I hit insert all it doesn’t insert all for the enjoyment of others? Let’s try again
