Barn find KZ1000 was created by Ejedmo5
Hey guys new to the forum and new to the KZ’s but I found a KZ1000 at an auction and bought it for next to nothing with the hopes of restoring it and getting it running. It’s a 1981 according to the vin 11/80 is what the date says on the frame. It has 6000 miles. I’m curious to hear what people think of it’s potential. It came with a new Vance and Hines exhaust but not installed in the pictures.

I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

I don't know much about the KZ1000's after 1980 but it sure looks like you hit the jackpot. Good luck with getting it back on the road.

It did not have a title but in Indiana you can get a title with the bill of sale. I had to do it on my CB650C pretty painless process. Failed to mention it came with a new rear tire not mounted with a DOT date of 2003 so clearly it’s been sitting a while. No rust in the tank but does appear to have a hole in it. Any idea what this green paint color was called? I can’t find any info or any pictures of one this color

Update on my barn find, carbs where removed and cleaned, brake calipers were all removed and rebuilt, rear brake master cylinder was good and left alone, front brake master cylinder removed and drilled out and put a sleeve in it (first time doing that). New battery put in, fired right up and took of for its first drive last night. Still a long road to go till complete.

By Ejedmo5: Has anyone been able to find the meter dampers or an alternative one for this generation kz1000? Part number 92075-1315? Mine are in horrible shape. ....
You may have to fabricate dampers from foam weatherstripping or something. NipponNirinsha.com had them, but the site isn't working & has had issues in the past. I think they're in Australia. He might have an EB AU store, but I couldn't find anything. There is a nipponnirinsha on EB UK, but no items are listed. Here's a pic from KZRider. I don't recall who posted it.
Kawasaki meter dampers. 92075-1315. replacement part. improved design made from UV stabilized silicone rubber.

I took the battery box out and repainted everything got it put mostly back together but I’m a little stumped on how all the wires were ran so the tool tray would drop in nicely. Mine was never ran correct even when I took it apart. If someone could send me pictures of theirs that would be super helpful, just a top down and from the sides with the covers off ought to do. The left side is already put
back together with the six big connectors
