In my opinion it would be worth less as a clone than as a stock '78 KZ1000. It was a great bike in its day. The only issue I've heard is carburation was very lean.

I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

Changing that stock bike / paint job would be a big mistake! Ed

78 had 2 or 3 colors! If you don't know?
Why bother??
That is an excellent buy! Plain and simple!

Yes, clear title. Only downside that I've heard is it hasn't been run in quite a few years. Usually that's not problem. My friend bought an H2 from the guy earlier in the year and that was a good deal too. I'm supposed to find out more about it today. Unless something unexpected pops up I'll probably get it.

Yeah, I'd be getting it as a daily rider though. I guess it would depend just what condition the paint was in. Unless the paint was a B or less I wouldn't mess with it. Wasn't that lean carb thing something Kawi did as a quick fix to comply with changing pollution regs at the time?

We had a troll that would get banned, change his username, start fights, get banned again and so on. I make it a habit to look up the IP addresses of ones in question. He's out of NY but he could be using a cell hotspot or other IP.
Persistent little bugger and I'm glad to say he isn't you.
Didn't mean to hijack your thread and I hope you understand.

Re: Lean Carbs...

There is an easy fix. Just re-jet the carbs as per 1976 or 1977. But make sure to change the needles and needle jets along with the other bits.

My 78 LTD 1000 came with 26mm carbs .
They worked fine. Stock vs stock my LTD was faster than buddies new 78 Z1R till about 50 mph as I remember. Then the Z1r would pull on me for balance of race .
His bike came with 28mm carbs .
I went to 29 smoothbores to up the ante , and so on and so forth LOL

LOL... OK now that makes sense. I absolutely understand. This is a problem found all over the internet, commonly referred to as "the mentally retarded asshole factor". It's becoming quite a plague these days. And let me also state that you guys have been an incredible help getting my KZ900 straightened out over the past few months and I'd like to express my gratitude again for all your great advice.
