the kat lower triple is forged .not cast. which anyone that calls themself a welder would know with one touch of a grinder.
when you need such a thin walled bushing.
i get an oversize slug of steel and bore the hole to match the kz stem and press it on the stem.
i then reach inside and weld the bushing to the stem.then i chuck it up in the lathe and machine it to be a press fit into the donor lower triple.
here is a thread on the subject. www.kzrider.com/forum/5-chassis/325862-triple-tree-custom-work page 3 has some pics to illustrate the process.
lemme know if you need any further help.
cool project.

Awesome, thanks Leon! My buddy really wants to tackle this project, but I'll let you know if I need any of your help. I'll send you a PM.

Got some more time tonight.
Cleaned up some cuts and grinds. Cut off the stock turn signal/grab handle mounts and the rear battery box mount to make room for the monoshock mount.
My buddy ended up making that sleeve for the steering stem and lower triple. It turned out awesome. He’s going to weld it all up underneath so it’ll be ready to mount up.

I appreciate it, Leon! Thanks for being there for back-up. He got it all welded up last night and it's ready for install.
I just need to finish the fork seals, sand and paint the lower fork tubes, then reassemble them, then they're ready to mount up. The swing arm is coming together nicely...just need to figure out some small details, paint it, then it's ready for mounting as well.
Need to figure out what front and rear sprocket I want to run. I don't know the front sprocket offset just yet, but after scribbling numbers down and thinking in my head I'm leaning towards a 17/41 combo to give me a nice 2.41 ratio. Stock is 15/35 2.33 ratio, and the set-up that I've been riding on was a 14/35 2.50 ratio which wasn't enough top end for me to cruise with. So I'm thinking of splitting it in the middle in a 530 pitch. Any thoughts?

I’ve been running 37/15 on my KZ1000 with the 630 chains, for about 38-39 years now.
Nice combo.

A 2.47 ratio, which sounds just about right. If I went with a 17/42 that would put me exactly at 2.47 as well. Would I feel the difference between 2.41 and 2.47? .06 of a difference? Just curious....
