Down to the Nitty Gritty
24 Oct 2017 12:49
Finally has come down to the last few parts deliveries before her first road test. It's been a long road to get to this moment. Bike wouldn't be what it is without this site so kuddos to every member on here who's contributed the wealth of knowledge this site has to offer. All that said what you guys think not terrible for my first Kz. Still needs a muffler which I can't make up my mind on throw some suggestions if you got em. Looking forward to all kinds of feedback. Gracious,

I think it would be cool to find a short muffler to mount under the engine so that it would end right where the current pipe does.

Just an observation but i think that battery mounted on the swing arm could pose you some problems. Great use of space though.

Agree that battery should not be mounted to the swingarm. That increases unsprung mass among other things.

Don't take this the wrong way, but is your frame really that crooked?
The upper shock mounts don't line up at all and flat part at the back end of the frame is not perpendicular to the tire.

It appears that the upper frame rail on the right side in the pic (i.e. the left side of the bike) is about .25" too short in front of the upper shock mount.
There is an indentation just to the right and near the top edge of the Dyna S. Is that a dent or an artifact of frame modifications?

I noticed the same thing, The picture below shows what I found to look suspicious. Ed

Nice job on the diagram, Ed - that is mostly what I was picturing. The yellow line on the left was a surprise, though: I didn't realize that frame rail was at such an angle.
I think the misaligned shocks will put a slight twisting load on the swingarm bushings as the bike goes over bumps. It might not actually bind until the shocks are close to bottoming (if it binds at all) but it's still not a good idea.
Hope the OP sees the diagram before getting the bike on the road.

Just curious here.. WHY, don't any of these pics show up? The pic 650ED posted shows great with his awesome and spot on critique, I might ad. I expect that the pics are gone on threads that are 6-7 years old, but this thread is recent. Curious minds want to know.
