KZ 440 G1 was created by Rustyhama
Hello again my KZ loving friends. I'm at it again. I just purchased an 82 KZ440 G1, it's another belt drive and fortunately not the Ltd model. I'll get it shipped down in the next week or so then I'll get to work on getting her back on the road. I'm thinking I'll just leave her stock at this stage. She looks pretty clean so maybe too good to chop.

I've been searching all over this forum for the post about what to do first when you get an old bike that hasn't run for many years. I pretty much know what to do, I've done it before but I would like to read through it again just so I don’t miss anything important. If someone can point me in the right direction please...

How long sitting?? Do these newer models have a kicker? or just electric start?
Either way, if turned over? I would pull plugs, get both pistons about equal in bores. The put about 2-3-4 ounces on Marvels Mystery Oil in the plug holes. And let that sit a few days. Then turn engine over gradually. Then some compressed air to blow whatever out, as it's kicked over. The you start again from here! MM oil is the best stuff ever created! I started using it in 1975!!!!!!!!

Thanks guys, that helps. I had already ordered a tin of Kroil, the Marvel's Mystery Oil is not available here in NZ but I had great success with Kroil on my last barn find. The bike was last registered in 2001 so over 15 years since she's been running. It was an old timers pride and joy. I bought it off his widow. She said he wouldn't let anyone else touch it! I think some turkey must have dropped it taking the photos for the listing. In 2 of them the front left turn signal lens is good, in the 3rd it's broken. Anyone have a spare?
I should be getting it next week then I can see exactly what I'm in for!

It seems my 440 G1 model is quite a rare beast. I'm sure I saw a recent post in New members who had a real minter and 3 lovely photos but I can't find it today. Then I had a look through the gallery and found images of 1 bike that someone had worked on and posted back in 05. Anyone know much about the G1?

Got the bike yesterday not as clean as I'd hoped. It was reasonably clean but it's been messed with by a Muppet. The first thing I noticed was the non stock starter relay I think it's called, there was some very ugly wiring around that area, twisted wires covered with brown packaging tape - yikes.
The worst and most disappointing issue it the incomplete air filter. It has the air box but no filter or housing. And the boots from the air box to the carbs a hard as a rock so stock air box arrangement is looking less likely.
The brake fluid is all brown and disgusting with no pressure but that's to be expected.
There's a bit of spot rusting in the tank but I'll probably fill it with old bolts and some sand and give a bit of a shake. I think I have some acid too for that job.
So I have the carbs off and opened up all. The fuel has done the varnish thing and the diaphragms are shot but no corrosion and tidy enough on the exterior.
Other than that everything else is pretty much unmolested. Oh there is a GS450 headlight on it with no bulb too! Some old timers pride and joy? Hmmm I doubt it. Luckily I'm a sucker for these bikes! First things on the shopping list are replacement diaphragms and carb holders. And I'll have a think about what to do with the filters. I know it's a pain in the ass but there are plenty of 440's out there running pods, so I'll just ask around probably on do the ton.
I'll add some photos soon.
Later gaters!

Doesn't look too bad. The wiring can be fixed. Just not much fun. Look forward to watching this.

It was interesting to listen how many members here jump on the little 400/440 twins to mod them.
