Hi Tim,
Paint damage and rust on a battery box is likely caused by battery acid leaks. Whatever you do to prep for paint, be sure to scrub the entire box, especially the rusty areas with baking soda to neutralize any remaining acid residue.

We prime, then paint, resulting bare metal on items like that. Semi-gloss black enamel.

+1 on Tim's approach, I like to put down Duplicolor's Metal Etch primer on bare metal prior to painting.

Hey all,
Update. Took the master Cylinder and caliper in for rebuild. Guy said the MC was really bad. He had to media blast the inside to get all the hardened fluid out. Good news is it came out great and all good. The caliper piston was frozen in but good news, the bore is fine.
I picked those and my rim w new tire, put them on and took off the real. Just spent three hours cleaning this mess up. Not great at before pics , trust me it was black and hard.

Questions
How do I clean the chain? Or do I?

Exhaust is coming up faster than I planned. What is the best factory style complete set to get?

Thank you
Tim

Hello everyone,
First off I want to say thank you for the help, advice and support I received from you all.

Here is where it is. I cleaned and cleaned, Had the master cylinder and caliper rebuilt, new front and rear tires, cleaned the tank and this and that.

Finally took it to Cycle Metrics here in Portland. Gary Black one man shop. Dude is so cool. He rebuilt the carbs which were in terrible condition.

It's alive!
