75 Z1 gas tank lid was created by Tim
Just got my Z1, can't get the lid open. The latch is working , It's been sitting 30 years so I assume the rubber is sealed .

Ideas on getting it open?

Thanks

Remove tank, turn it upside down, remove the petcock, pour some Liquid Wrench or PBBlaster or Marvel Mystery Oil through the petcock hole, and let it sit for a while to allow the penetrant to soak into and around the cap (filler hole) area. Penetrant may leak out around the cap, so use a soak rag under the cap, and apply fresh penetrant as needed.

Good Fortune! :)

I have a used cap if yours is the one with a latch not a key to open, the gasket is a little dry rotted....if you damage yours??has slight pitting . I do have a brand new latch/spring too.....somewhere...

It doesnt take much to get these bikes going, but there are some small things to look out for. Search this site, z-classik or any of the major facebook pages.
