I recommend you take the tank to a radiator repair shop and have it brazed or leaded in. If you seal it, it will start flaking off someday and that is a beeyatch. The trick is finding a radiator repair shop. They are dropping like flies.

Still need to get the tanks repaired. Hope to do that in the next week. In the meantime, I got new tires (Kenda 671s) and exhaust, Emgo shorties with some Emgo Triumph upturn adapters. Need to figure a way to get the exhaust tight. Have a little slop with the slip joints. A friend mentioned using pop cans (soda for the rest of you B) ).

Tires need to be mounted yet. Got the rear half on my spare wheels. Waiting on tubes. Once its mounted, I'll paint the wheel and swap over.

Grrr. Pinched the new rear tube trying to get the tire mounted!

On a happier note, I got the Emgo shorties mounted and quieted down. Need to repack the baffles with stainless steel wool though. Ignore the temporary gas tank. Still refurbing the stock tanks. Got one silver soldered.

Got the tanks soldered up. Was able to do it myself. Wen 450 watt iron, silver solder and some flux.

Now to continue stripping the tank for a repaint.

Good job getting the holes plugged up. Are you sure that is silver solder? I don't think a 450w iron can generate the 1,100 - 1,400 degrees needed to melt it.

I should say, silver bearing solder. 430F melting temp. We'll see how well it works. The iron does get really hot. Wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't around 550-600F. But definitely not enough for pure silver solder.

I suspected as much. I wonder if a 50/50 lead - tin mix would have been easier since it has a pretty wide plastic state......

I have tin plated my complete fuel tank from the out side surface, plus fill the emblem depressions
with tin (after removing the emblem holders) and some very little dents before i sealed the inner tank surface with POR15.
I have used a little bigger (550 Watts) soldering iron.

Getting closer to done. Just need to get the tires mounted on the spare wheels and swap them over.
