Hi guys and gals, I have bought myself a winter project, a UK Z1000 A , bit of a mess but not to far gone.

What I found was missing, apart from the zorst pipes, is the silencer from three back of the air filter, should any of you guys have one knocking about your workshops, and will part with it, I will make good by way of spending notes, long shot
I know

Nice to have an original Euro version...original pipes and airbox bits will be, as you know, troublesome.

Sorry not been on for a while, got a few bits done, got the frame and bits powder coated, and some of the chrome work back, wheels back today so can start the rebuilding, slow but sure progress.

Looking nice :)

I assume from the picture you are just missing the airbox snorkel? It seems most of those were removed and tossed away back in the day, so although it may be nice for originality it's not a necessary part. For anyone who can't find an airbox at a decent price, a good everyday riding solution is one of the reproduction Z1 airboxes. They fit well and give you all the benefits of an airbox, but makes it so much easier to remove the carbs, which you seem to have to do several times, before there isn't something that isn't quite right (and possibly in between too :) ). The whole thing being molded rubber, is so flexible compared to the newer arrangement on the Z1000. I have an original airbox for mine, which I found in a deserted barn after I'd had my bike a while, but I keep it on the shelf in my garage - for now at least.

Here it is on the biker, only place the fit isn't quite perfect is to the inside of the side covers where there's a slight gap between it and the .rubber of the manifold, but you have to be down by the engine and looking back to notice.

Back again, a couple of pic's with slow progress, its a costly business this bike restoring, trying to use all original restored parts, not all patten stuff.

Well I tackled the clocks this last week, the glass was dusty, bodies needed cleaning and painting up, stripped them down, aqua blasted clean, re plated , painted then put back together, job done.
