Bought a 1981 GPz1100 this weekend. Over paid, never considered the amount of money and TIME it will take to finish, still do not regret buying it.
A little about it:
1. PO says it been sitting 3 years, it has been sitting much longer!! tires are cracked. Has been stored inside.

2.Has some broken exhaust studs that really worry me.

3. Has original fuel injection. PO says it ran, but he had some kind of knob installed that increases the RPM while riding or it sputters???
Going try and fire it up with FI, but plan on putting 29s on it. This will be all new to me and I am looking forward to it. Will be asking a lot of questions.

i will gladly take any advise given!!

Sweet. If you are planning to keep the engine stock, the FI can be saved in most cases. If you are going to carbs, you may want to consider something more modern. Carbs have improved considerably since the 1970s.

Is there any articles or sites that goes through the FI to carb swap?

TexasKZ what do you recommend? I have a set of 29s from WG here now, but I am not against getting better. I figure I will be into this bike way more than I will get out of it!!!!!

I am certain that this has been discussed on a number of threads in KZR...but they may be difficult to tease out of the archives...the biggest issue is using the head as the injectors mount directly to the head...hence the injector ports have to be plugged.

Looks like a nice clean example from the photo. Hopefully you can get it sorted without too much drama. Good luck with it.

Nice bike, if you get the FI worked out it'll run better than throwing the 29's on it, & like Texas KZ mentioned, you're better of selling those 40 yr. old carbs & getting some brand new Mikuni RS 34's, if you insist on putting carbs on it, you can probably get more than 600.00 for the 29's maybe more if they were done by WG
You can get a new set of RS 34's for around 700.00 if you shop around, & they'll be new & easy to get parts for, if need be in the future

Nice bike. You may have to go with a Dyna system and coils. I agree with the newer carbs. 29's will work but they can be tough to get right.

At this point i have to go with the 29s because i have them now. If I am successful in b ringing it back to life I will probably get newer carbs. I am going to put a battery in this weekend and see if I have spark. Then disconnect FI harness and see if I still have spark. Only way I can think of doing it.
