Thanks Lou. While not up for any Oscars yet... when i searched for similar info there was very little useful stuff out there on the 550. Your links are the best 550 stuff out there. I hope it can be of help to the next person like me that tears one apart. I got to admit though, the video makes it look easier than it was. The 1.5 hours of video comes from about two full work days of film. i cut even more boring stuff out. :woohoo: R

she's running well. A short ride. Engine is smomi,v some along with pipes. Looks like normal burn off of residual grease and cleaner. Oil light flickered some, but it's off. Will get more to.e,with her tomorrow. No visible oil leaks. All functions operating. Carb installation video forthcoming. Happy. R

Re: 1981 KZ550A2 Update-Carb and start

She is running. This video has the carb install, battery install, tank install and first start after rebuild. Success! A bit of smoking going on but it settled down after the ride. Pretty much burn off from the pipes and motor. I forgot to put the tube on the bottom of the breather. Will get out for a longer ride tomorrow. The video will take a while to load before it has full 1080p resolution. The carb boots went very easy on this install. Remember to pull up on the air box as as back to get more space to work with. Re: 1981 KZ550A2 Update- Intermittent Oil Light

27 Feb 2016 19:36
#712782
So I got out for a longer ride after the rebuild. Got a faint oil light that would go off when at less than 3k rpm. Then came on bright. I stopped. There are no leaks and no smoking. Started back up and it was off, then on, not full bright. Came home and decided to change the oil. This the first change after rebuild. The oil was pretty thin and contaminated. I am guessing the assembly lube and cleaner I used. New oil in no light. Hoping the starvation wasn't too bad. No smells or smoke. We'll see in the coming few weeks how it hold up. I am guessing the filter may be toast too. Will do a third oil change and new filter soon. Anyone else have intermittent oil pressure light issues after assembly??
