I pulled the trigger on buying a set of 1987 gsxr1100 wheels and supporting hardware for a wheel upgrade. I also ordered a set of flat slide 34 mm mikunis. I'm not sure yet if I need to upgrade the swing arm yet but that's on the table. Has anybody used these wheels before? I'll be upgrading the brakes as well. No photos because I don't have them all yet.

As I understand it,If you want a fatter back wheel,youre going to need a wider swingarm. On my build I use a gsxr600 swingarm (direct fit)
and a Bandit600 wheel,with a 160 tyre.
A gsxr1100 wheel would have a 180 tyre (?), I dont see how thats going to fit in a standard swingarm. Also,chain run has to be thunk about,and if you want to have the wheel centered,the sprocket carrier is probably going to hit on the arm.(Though a lot of people reckon you can run a back wheel off center,I find that a very weird idea !.)

Double check the rim sizes on the Gsxr. I think they may be 18's and the tire options are somewhat limited.

I've done a few suspension swaps. I can tell you first hand to research, research, and do more research before handing over cash for the parts.

I've been scoping this out for a while. I purposefully went with the 18" rims to maintain ride hight, this keeps me from having to Mickey mouse a suspension riser solution and keep the set of ZRX rear shocks I bought for it. Also the front fork width is just about dead nuts the same width as the Gixxr forks, so the front wheel should clear. The stock width for these rims is rear 150/70 (4") and front 110/80. If I have to change the rear swing arm, I think I'd go with a ZRX one.

I forgot to mention, I have my complete EFI system for sale. I have most of it on ebay, but if someone on this forum wants it, I'll make you a smoking deal. I have two -1003 control units, and two fuel pumps.

I also have a set of 34 mm CV carbs off a 80's police version that came with the bike as well for sale.

Too give you an idea, I paid $100.00 apiece for the control units, $80.00 for the pumps, $75.00 for the pump switch, $25.00 filter etc...

It even comes with a K&N air filter for the stock air box, you can't even buy those anymore I think.

So, I started back on my 1981 GPZ550 project. Details:

Paid $200.00 for it. Barely running, and lawn furniture speckled gray and silver textured paint on every part he could reach. It also had a nice dent in the tank as well.

I've taken it to the bare frame, stripped and cleaned every nut, bolt and part. Order over $600.00 in new OEM hardware, stripped and resprayed every part to original specs. I still need to rebuild the forks, powder coat the frame and swing arm, and re-assemble the top end of the engine. I was going to put the 615 kit in, but it was just too expensive, so I purchased a low mile <<, 1000 miles($25.00), cylinder block off a zephyr 550, honed and re-ringed the existing pistons. I purchased a horrible old kerker 4 into 1, that has to be blasted and repainted, and some filter pods. The real challenge has been getting the hardware, so many of the screws and nuts are buggered and rusted. I'm also still seeking a in tank fuel level sending unit. It's the round base type.

My Gixxer wheels arrived, check it out. The rear bolts right up like I thought it would!!

There will be some work with the brake mount, but nothing too bad, I had to do the same on a old VFR.
