You can actually squeeze in a z1000J/Gpz1100 engine doing some mount mods, but you wont be able to lift the camshaft cover to check your valves. Removing the engine every time you check your valves is not worth it. Baldy has solved that by extending the frame tubes inorder to get clearances.
Didn't get hold of Erik yesterday inorder to get the pivot to shock mount measurements, sorry.

Yes the engine does fit with some minor alterations to the frame. It fits nicely when done. I can even take the top end off without removing the engine from the frame. I was also told it would not fit but I am one of those weird people who just tries it anyway to prove it can be done. I wanted it as light as possible and managed to get it at 420 pound with fuel. It has about 125 HP so the power to weight ratios is around 3.36 HP per pounds. I am really pleased with how it came out. Here are some pics

Kretchman its 447mm from center of the pivot bolt to the shock mounts on the Zephyr 750 swingarm according to Erik who got the ruler out.

Damn, I wish I knew that last year when a beat up, seized, and moldy 82 GPz750 came up for sale here last year. I won't pass up the next one, though.

Now I'm thinking how much fun a 420 lb. GPz1428 cc Big Block, 200 RWHP Lime Green "GPz750" would be....

Just arranged to buy an "83 GPz1100 with a decent engine, and have a line on an '83 KZ750L in need of TLC (identical to the '82 GPz750) - going to build the 1100 motor to Pro - Stock spec. 1428 200+ RWHP and put in the 750 frame to build one like yours.... should be able to start mods early next season, hope to have it done the following year.

I'm enjoying this thread, derailment by above excepted. This bike is going to be sweet!

Lighten up Ness,that is one of the coolest projects I've seen here, Apart from the minor deatail of an engine swap the look and build quality is among the best I've seen on the forum, and my personal favourite.

It was in reply to an earlier question but certainly an inspiration to anyone remotely interested in the thread subject - being a 750R1 green kwak.

So stop it boys! no reason to argue, :laugh: There is plenty of room in my thread as long as nobody is posting a hack job pics of bobbing attempts. :whistle:
With regards to Z1000/Gpz1100 implants in Gpz750R1’s, look at the pics of Tommy’s bike





Tommy didn’t drop the frame though when he implanted the 1100 engine, so he has to take the engine out in order to set the valves.

I on the other hand, is ashamed of my slow progress but was mocking up the bike today when I paid Erik a visit.



As you can see, the only thing better than a Gpz750R1, is two 
(note that Erik’s R1 gets to ride the new Chinese lift table, whereas mine is still on the Ugandan model)



X-cuse the shitty pic, but I had to mock up the front wheel with the original front fender that we have split and widened by 1’. It will take some more fabing before we get a perfect fit on the Zephyr fork and it might look a little bit awkward with the 17' rim, but then we just have to come up with something else.




No real job got done, but we measured up a whole lot of stuff that we are going to get started with now that days are getting shorter.

Nice "derailment" of ones own thread Anders :P Thats a nice Bike Tommy has, looks like the tank needs raising without frame mods for top end maintenance , Also looks like an early Slabby GSXR750 swingarm...? Your bike is coming along nicely, I really wanted to paint mine with a different color combination to the typical Red or the ELR green but, damn that green looks good.... ;)

Hey, I wouldn't exactly call any of these projects "restoration" anyway....

It is all about modifying the 82 GPz750 (which is one damn good looking Zed if you ask me), or at least that is what I thought....
