83 kz 750 fairing removal ?'s
18 Mar 2015 20:44
Previous owner of bike removed it and didnt include it when he sold it to me. Does anyone have experience with wiring up a headlight and cleaning up the rat nest wiring. Any help in the right direction would be appreciated.
Included is a pic of how she sits now.

What KZ750 is it? Ltd Shaft? Did the po cut all the wires there at the front end?
The simplest thing to do would be to round up the stock parts on eebbaayy. If the electrical connectors are still there, that would make things simpler for figuring out what's what in the wiring harness.

Easy way to go would be get a test light and probe any butchered wires, see which two respond to low and main beam. Probably red/black and red/yellow, with yellow/black as the ground. Don't pick just any yellow/black, go for the thick gauge wiring which should be the same thickness as the other two headlamp feeds. (the warning lights and instrument illumination uses much lower wattage bulbs. hence much thinner yellow/black ground wires)
If that isn't happening, trace circuit from right hand switchgear block connector.
Then get a headlamp connector like this, they are a standard fitting for halogen bulbs

I scored a headlight from an iron head, which I know I can make work. I'll look into getting that plug. Yes it is the SHAFT LTD. KZ 750 F.
The wiring looks intact. I'm assuming they just unplugged the fairing and went from there. All of it was still in the stock bag tucked where the headlight would mount on the front forks .

I am going the street tracker route, stripped down and won't be running a speedo. I have the stock one that came with the bike but it's time to get rid of that 80s technology! I appreciate the input though, always something to keep in mind.
