To drill a hole in the bars or not?
05 Nov 2014 22:29
I recently slid my bike in the rain(my own damn fault mind you). One of the problems after the fact was my handlebars were bent. Got new bars. But when I removed my throttle assembly I noticed a drill hole and cut up screw under it. I assume this is to prevent the throttle from sliding off. Is it necessary to drill a new hole in the bars. Please and thank you.

Yeah, it's to keep it from twisting and sliding off, drill the hole in the bar. You'll also have fitment issues if you don't, won't be able to tighten down the throttle assembly all the way. I made the mistake of cutting off the nub instead of drilling the hole on my GS500 and would have to readjust the assembly once a week.

When installing new handlebars, I drilled the holes using a titanium bit. It was surprisingly easy --- I was expecting difficulty drilling into a curved, slippery surface.
